The travel landscape continues to evolve. The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jabar) is preparing a major leap forward with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). Both parties have officially agreed on the strategic "Kilat Pajajaran" service, a conventional express train targeting a travel time of just 1.5 hours between Gambir Station and Bandung.

This collaboration forms part of broader efforts to accelerate citizen mobility on conventional routes while opening new access for travelers moving between West Java's two most dynamic cities and Jakarta more efficiently.

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi emphasized this breakthrough is part of massive optimization in the railway sector.

"The Kilat Pajajaran train will significantly cut travel time, reducing Gambir-Bandung to approximately one and a half hours. This service is even planned to extend to Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Banjar with about two hours travel time via Bandung," Dedi stated in Bandung on Wednesday.

More Than Just Speed: Integrated Solutions

Kilat Pajajaran isn't the only innovation. Dedi highlighted another equally important element: the launch of "Kereta Api Tani Mukti," a dedicated service transporting agricultural products from production centers to main markets in Jakarta, Cirebon, and Banjar.

"We're providing locomotives and carriages to transport agricultural and trade goods on the Jakarta-Cirebon and Jakarta-Banjar routes, named Kereta Api Tani Mukti," he explained.

This move is deemed crucial for shortening supply chains and reducing logistics costs that have long burdened food prices.

Reviving Long-Forgotten Tourist Routes

Within this roadmap, the West Java Provincial Government and KAI also plan to revitalize the "Jaka Lalana" tourist route traversing Jakarta-Bogor-Sukabumi-Cianjur.

This landscape-rich route holds potential to become one of the most captivating rail tourism corridors, connecting mountainous areas, colonial history sites, and small towns historically developed along the railway.

Simultaneously, electrification acceleration on the Padalarang–Cicalengka line is being prepared to support daily urban mobility in Greater Bandung, facilitating commuters, students, and tourists relying on mass transportation.

KAI Ready to Execute: Infrastructure Preparation Underway

PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin welcomed this initiative. The company will establish a Joint Working Group to develop technical studies, phased implementation plans, and strategic area arrangements including Bandung and Kiaracondong Stations.

This commitment was solidified through a cooperation agreement signed by Dedi Mulyadi and Bobby Rasyidin, witnessed by Deputy Transportation Minister Suntana in Purwakarta on Tuesday (25/11).

Dedi expressed hope for prompt funding disbursement, considering the substantial economic impact potential from integrating north-south rail networks.

"Today the West Java Provincial Government alongside all regents and mayors commits to developing railways. May journeys from West Java to Jakarta become increasingly seamless," Dedi said.

If realized, Bandung-Jakarta trips—currently synonymous with road congestion and unpredictable travel times—could transform dramatically. Tourists could enjoy rapid 1.5-hour journeys while viewing Priangan mountainscapes or continue routes to Garut, Tasikmalaya, or Banjar without switching transportation modes. (Antara)
