FIFA Series 2026 will be the first test for the new era of the Indonesian National Team under the guidance of John Herdman. This mini-tournament hosted by Indonesia serves as a benchmark event to gauge the competitiveness of the Garuda Squad at the international level.
PSSI Chairman, Erick Thohir, stated that this event is not just an ordinary series of friendly matches. For him, the FIFA Series 2026 is a strategic moment to see how well the new foundation being built holds up under competitive conditions.
The FIFA Series 2026 will take place on March 27 and 30, 2026, at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. Four countries from different confederations will participate. Besides Indonesia (AFC), the other three nations are Bulgaria (UEFA), Solomon Islands (OFC), and Saint Kitts & Nevis (CONCACAF).

This diversity of confederation backgrounds is the main attraction. Indonesia will not only face variations in quality but also a spectrum of contrasting playing philosophies.
"This event is not only a good test for the New Coach, John Herdman, but also an opportunity for the National Team Players to test their abilities against different playing styles from different confederations," said Erick in a written statement on Monday.
In the opening match on March 27 at 20:00 WIB, Indonesia is scheduled to face Saint Kitts & Nevis. Erick highlighted the unique character of this prospective opponent, which has a distinct touch of English Football.
"In the first match, Indonesia will face St. Kitts & Nevis (CONCACAF), a former British colony. Their playing style heavily adopts the British Football style and also relies on counter-attacks," explained Erick.
This test will be an initial reflection of how Herdman formulates the team composition, builds gameplay organization, and responds to the direct play and fast counter-attacks that Garuda is likely to face.
If they achieve victory, Indonesia will advance to the final match on March 30 to face the winner of the Bulgaria vs. Solomon Islands duel. Meanwhile, the losing teams will play in the third-place playoff.
For Erick, the FIFA Series is not just about short-term results, but a long-term investment in building a new playing identity.
"I hope the National Team in this era of the New Coach can utilize this event to rebuild the strength of the national team," he concluded.
With a packed schedule and opponents from across confederations, the FIFA Series 2026 becomes the most relevant initial test for the Indonesian National Team.
