Barcelona is once again rocked by euphoria following speculation about Lionel Messi's potential return to Camp Nou this week. The unannounced visit of the Argentine superstar on Monday, November 10, became the main trigger. Many El Barca fans hope Messi will wear the Blaugrana jersey again, even if only on a short-term loan after the 2025 MLS season ends in December 2025.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was also swept up in the media coverage. When asked about the possibility of coaching Messi if the legend truly returns, Flick gave a positive response.
"Why not? Messi is the best player of the last ten years. I've always enjoyed watching the way he plays football, and he would fit into any team," Flick stated, as quoted by Football Espana on Friday, November 21, 2025.

Will we see the Messi vs Ronaldo eternal duel at the 2026 World Cup?
That comment immediately became headlines across various European media outlets, especially as Barcelona prepares to face Athletic Club at Camp Nou on Saturday, November 22, 2025 – their first home match since the renovation process began in 2023.
However, Flick quickly clarified that contractual situations make the prospect of coaching Messi too distant to discuss currently.
"Messi’s contract (at Inter Miami) ends in 2028, while my contract expires in 2027. So this isn’t a relevant question right now," Flick added.

Nevertheless, the enthusiasm of Blaugrana fans hasn't waned. Messi's presence at Camp Nou fueled rumors of Inter Miami opening the door for a short-term loan, similar to what MLS clubs did for David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the past.
However, this hope was quickly dashed by Barcelona President Joan Laporta. He deemed the scenario of bringing Messi back unrealistic due to the club's financial situation and the still frosty personal relationship since the player's dramatic departure in 2021.
The rift between Messi and Laporta remains a major barrier, making the chances of a reunion increasingly slim.
Messi left Barcelona as the club's greatest icon. Over 17 seasons (2004–2021), he scored 672 goals and provided 303 assists in 778 appearances, making him the all-time top scorer.
His trophy collection with Blaugrana also remains unmatched: 10 La Liga titles, 4 Champions League titles, 7 Copa del Rey trophies, and six Ballon d’Or awards won while wearing Barcelona colors.
Speculation about Messi's return may not be answered anytime soon. But for the supporters, just one brief visit to Camp Nou was enough to reignite the hope that never truly fades.
