Indonesian U-22 national team player Kadek Arel Priyatna affirmed his support for Ivar Jenner's captaincy. The FC Utrecht midfielder was entrusted as Garuda Muda's captain during their first trial match against Mali U-22 at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor, last Saturday. According to Kadek, Ivar deserves to wear the captain's armband.

“It's very positive because we know Ivar has extensive experience,” Kadek told reporters during team training at Madya Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on Monday.

Kadek previously served as captain under Gerald Vanenburg during the 2025 AFF U-23 Cup and 2026 AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers. Even after Indra Sjafri took over coaching duties, Kadek was reappointed captain for last month's friendly against India.

Rather than expressing disappointment, the 20-year-old center-back fully endorsed Ivar, stating the captain's armband is in capable hands.

“I've learned tremendously from Ivar – we consistently observe his leadership approach with teammates,” Kadek explained.

Despite their mere one-year age difference, their experience levels vary significantly. The 21-year-old Ivar has earned 18 caps since his senior team debut against Palestine in June 2023.

Meanwhile, Kadek's experience stems primarily from age-group competitions spanning U-19 to U-23 levels.

He has only made four senior appearances, all during last year's AFF Cup.

This gap in international exposure provides the logical basis for coach Indra Sjafri selecting Ivar as captain – a decision Kadek completely understands.

“Personally, whoever the coach designates will receive our 100% support. We recognize Ivar as a first-team player who commands respect, and I fully back him,” he emphasized.

Ahead of their second friendly against Mali U-22, this internal unity sends a positive signal.

Garuda Muda appears cohesive and solid, demonstrating that the captaincy change isn't disruptive but rather provides fresh energy for their upcoming matches.
