Janice Tjen Eliminated from the 2026 National Bank Open Doubles Event, Aldila Sutjiadi Becomes Indonesia's Remaining Hope.

Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen's campaign at the 2026 WTA 1000 National Bank Open has officially come to an end. After already being eliminated from the singles draw earlier, Janice also failed to advance further in the doubles competition, falling in the first round of the tournament held in Toronto, Canada.

Partnered with Polish tennis player Katarzyna Piter, Janice was unable to overcome the pairing of Storm Hunter (Australia) and Desirae Krawczyk (United States), falling in straight sets 4-6, 0-6 on Friday, 7 August 2026 WIB.

Janice and Piter actually put up solid resistance at the start of the match. However, they struggled to match the aggressive game style of Hunter and Krawczyk, who maintained far more effective play throughout the 1 hour and 11 minute contest.

The Australian-American duo converted five out of their seven break point opportunities. In contrast, Janice and Piter only managed to capitalise on one of the five break points they created during the match.

Hunter/Krawczyk Deliver Dominant Performance

The first set was tightly contested, with both pairs exchanging service breaks. Match momentum shifted when Hunter and Krawczyk secured a critical break in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead, before closing out the opening set with a 6-4 victory.

Their dominance became even more pronounced in the second set. Hunter and Krawczyk broke Janice and Piter's serve three times without allowing their opponents any foothold, wrapping up the match with a convincing 6-0 second set win.

Statistically, Hunter and Krawczyk controlled the encounter, winning 54 out of the total 95 points played for a success rate of 56.8 percent. They also delivered an exceptional first serve performance, claiming 23 out of 29 points on their first serve for an efficiency rate of 79.3 percent.

Janice's Toronto Campaign Ends

This result confirms the end of Janice's participation in the 2026 National Bank Open. Prior to this doubles defeat, the 23-year-old had already exited the singles draw following a 6-7(11), 5-7 first round loss to seeded player Liudmila Samsonova.

Despite not recording a deep run in Toronto, Janice entered the tournament on the back of positive form with partner Katarzyna Piter. The pair had previously won titles at the 2025 WTA 250 Guangzhou and 2026 WTA 250 Hobart tournaments.

Additionally, Janice claimed the 2026 WTA 125 Birmingham Classic title back in June, competing alongside Australian player Talia Gibson.

Meanwhile, Indonesia still remains represented in the doubles draw through Aldila Sutjiadi, who is partnered with New Zealand player Erin Routliffe.

Aldila and Routliffe are scheduled to face fourth seeds Kristina Mladenovic (France) and Hanyu Guo (China) in their first round match, which will take place in the early hours of Saturday, 8 August 2026 WIB.
