Indonesian national team defender Jay Idzes played the full 90 minutes as his club Sassuolo faced Genoa in Matchweek 10 of Serie A at Mapei Stadium on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 WIB. Sassuolo suffered a 1-2 defeat against Genoa.

Despite dominating the second half, Sassuolo paid dearly for defensive errors during injury time, culminating in Genoa's decisive winning goal by Leo Østigård.

Sassuolo coach Fabio Grosso attributed the loss to subpar performances across almost all departments, particularly the defense marshaled by Idzes and his teammates.

"In this league, if you don't perform at your best, you'll face difficulties and drop points," stated Grosso on the club's official website.

"Today we adopted the wrong approach. We played superficially, lost duels, misjudged distances, and gave them too many opportunities," he added.

Sassuolo equalized through Domenico Berardi in the 47th minute after initially trailing due to Ruslan Malinovskyi's long-range strike in the 18th minute.

However, hopes faded in the final minute. Jay Idzes lost an aerial duel while anticipating Aaron Martin's free-kick, allowing Østigård to score Genoa's match-winning goal.

"We actually improved in the second half and should have taken the lead through (Kristian) Thorstvedt. But in the dying minutes, we harmed ourselves with costly errors," said Grosso.

"This match provided a valuable lesson about the toughness of the competition we're facing."

Jay Idzes' Performance: Full Appearance, Not Yet Optimal

Jay Idzes again started as center-back and completed the full 90 minutes, though his performance was deemed unimpressive.

According to Fotmob data, Idzes received a 6.0 rating – the lowest among Sassuolo's starting defenders.

Statistics showed Idzes recorded 1 successful tackle, 3 clearances, 1 interception, and won 2 out of 4 duels.

Collectively, Sassuolo's defense lacked focus in crucial moments. This defeat serves as a warning for Idzes and teammates to improve concentration, especially during set-piece situations.

> "This match leaves a bitter taste and valuable lessons to keep developing and improving," Grosso concluded.

With this result, Sassuolo failed to advance in the Serie A standings. For Jay Idzes, this match marked a crucial test in his adaptation to Italian football, which demands high tactical discipline and consistency.
