The Ministry of Tourism's efforts to expand the reach of foreign tourists continue to progress. This time, the Indian market is being strategically targeted through a Familiarization Trip (famtrip) held from October 27 to November 2, 2025.

This program involves leading travel agents and tour operators (TA/TO) from India such as Global Combinationz India, Thomas Cook, and SOTC Travel Limited. The goal is clear—to directly introduce premium Indonesian tour packages and reinforce the perception that Indonesia is ready to be a prime destination for wedding, honeymoon, MICE, family, and luxury tourism segments.

“Through this famtrip, the Ministry aims to increase direct promotional frequency to Indian industry partners to strengthen perceptions of service quality, local cultural uniqueness, and Indonesia's tourism infrastructure readiness,” stated Deputy Minister of Marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini in Jakarta on Monday, November 3, 2025.

Exploring Three Premium Destinations: Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Bali

Over the week, famtrip participants explored three premier Indonesian destinations: Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Bali—each offering distinct yet complementary tourism experiences.

In Jakarta, participants discovered Kota Tua's heritage charm and modern herbal cuisine while examining the capital's potential as a MICE and urban tourism hub.

In Yogyakarta, famtrip attendees visited Malioboro, Prambanan Temple, and Borobudur Temple—UNESCO World Heritage cultural icons.

The Ministry also hosted a Yogyakarta networking session connecting local tourism industry players with Indian travel agents to build collaborations and design packages catering to the Indian market's preference for culture, luxury, and personalized experiences.

The journey culminated in Bali, where participants experienced the Island of Gods' leisure and cultural ambiance. Visits focused on wedding, honeymoon, and family resort facilities, acknowledging Bali's status as Indian tourists' favorite destination.

Bali Recovers, Tourism Rises Stronger

This famtrip also marks Bali's recovery momentum following recent major floods. All tourist destinations and facilities in Bali have now normalized operations due to swift coordination between the Central Government, Bali Provincial Government, communities, and tourism industry.

The Ministry aims to assure the world that Bali remains safe, beautiful, and ready to welcome premium tourists.

Strategic Collaboration and Indian Airline Support

The program received support from various tourism industry partners and IndiGo Airlines, which recently launched direct Denpasar-Mumbai (DPS-BOM) and Denpasar–Bengaluru (DPS-BLR) routes.

“These direct routes significantly reduce travel time and enhance comfort for Indian tourists,” said Assistant Deputy Minister for International Marketing I Dedi Ahmad Kurnia.

IndiGo provided special fares for famtrip participants, demonstrating strong support for Indonesia's efforts to expand its Indian tourism market.

Collaborations with Lisa Tour & Travel, Sheraton Grand Jakarta, Sahid Raya Hotel & Convention, Aneecha Sailing Catamaran, and Trans Studio Theme Park Bali showcased concrete synergy between government and tourism industry players.

Prediction: India to Become New Engine of Indonesian Premium Tourism

With economic growth and high outbound tourism interest, India now presents a strategic high-potential market for Indonesian tourism.

Through this famtrip, the Ministry anticipates significant increases in Indian tourist arrivals for 2026, particularly in wedding, honeymoon, family, and MICE segments.

“We expect more Indian travel agents to create and market Indonesian tour packages. This boosts tourist visits and stimulates local economic growth,” stated Dedi Ahmad Kurnia.

With direct flights, increasingly mature premium packages, and robust industry support. Indonesia is on track to become India's preferred destination—not just for holidays, but for special moments like weddings and honeymoons.
