Liverpool manager Arne Slot is striving to maintain calm amidst the turmoil engulfing his club. In the press conference ahead of the match against Aston Villa, Slot asserted that he did not want to discuss contracts and preferred to focus on improving the performance of his struggling team.
“That's the last question I expected. My focus is entirely on getting Liverpool back on the winning track,” said Slot, quoted from the club's official website, Saturday 1st November 2025.
This statement seems like Slot's way of escaping the hot issues surrounding his future at Anfield.

From Champions to a String of Consecutive Defeats
Slot arrived at Liverpool in 2024 on a three-year contract and was once hailed as the ideal successor to Jurgen Klopp. He even led The Reds to win the Premier League in his first season, an achievement that saw him celebrated by the Anfield faithful.
However, this season everything has changed drastically. Liverpool now seems directionless. Six defeats in their last seven matches across all competitions mark the club's worst run in several years.
The low point, a 0-3 defeat to Crystal Palace in the League Cup, has increased the pressure on Slot.
Although he previously sparked controversy with comments about the lack of squad depth, Slot is now choosing to assert that the problem is not with the players.
“I am happy with this team and the quality we possess. The issue is, not all players had a full pre-season or are currently injured. But I don't want to use that as an excuse for our results.”
Congested Schedule and Injury Storm
Slot cited the congested schedule as one of the factors making it difficult for his team to find rhythm.
“We've had to play many away matches with only two days' rest in between, and that's difficult for the players, even those who were fit throughout pre-season. But this isn't about squad depth, it's about the injury situation and player availability,” he explained.
An injury crisis is now hitting Liverpool. Alexander Isak is absent with a groin injury, while Curtis Jones is doubtful for the match. A glimmer of hope emerged after Ryan Gravenberch resumed training following an ankle injury.
“Ryan trained with us yesterday. The other two haven't. In the final stages of injury recovery, things can slow down or speed up, but Ryan trained and we'll see if he can play. The other two are almost certainly not in the squad on Saturday,” said Slot.
Between Hope and Uncertainty
Although dark clouds still hang over Anfield, Slot is choosing to focus on what he can control: training, fitness, and team spirit. He knows that one win could be the start of a revival and perhaps save his Liverpool career.
For the fans, Slot's journey at Liverpool is like a long trip to a tourist destination full of sharp bends. Sometimes tense, sometimes anxiety-inducing, but always offering hope at every new turn.
Amidst all the pressure, Arne Slot's fate depends on one simple yet decisive thing: victory.
