Imagine sitting in a train carriage moving slowly through green rice fields, high mountains, to historic cities. It's not just a journey from one station to another, but an adventure that takes you "around the world without a passport".
That is the new spirit brought by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 7 Madiun through a tourism program titled East Java Rail Tour.
This program is a fresh breakthrough from KAI together with 12 regional governments in East Java to connect tourism and transportation in one enjoyable experience.

Train Tourism: More Than Just a Journey
According to the Vice President of Daop 7 Madiun, Suharjono, the East Java Rail Tour program is a strategic step of collaboration between KAI and regional governments through the Tourism Office (Dispar) and the Communication and Informatics Office (Kominfo) in the working area of Daop 7.
The list of regions involved is quite long, ranging from Magetan, Ngawi, Madiun, Nganjuk, Jombang, Kediri, Tulungagung, to Blitar.
"PT KAI is present as a provider of safe, efficient, and integrated mass transportation access, as well as a partner that enables the delivery of regional tourism information to a national audience," said Suharjono.
Through the campaign titled "Around the World Without a Passport by Train", KAI wants to make train travel an integral part of the tourism experience itself, not just a means of transportation.
"Through this program, we want the train to be not only a mode of transportation, but also an integral part of the tourism experience itself," he said.
Four Exciting Pillars of the East Java Rail Tour
This program is not just promotion, but is designed thoroughly through four main collaboration pillars:
1. Integrated Digital Promotion
KAI, Dispar, and Kominfo will distribute tourism content and travel packages synchronously on various digital platforms to make the promotion stronger and more attractive.
2. Thematic Events and Tourism
Starting from educational tours, cultural, to culinary festivals, Rail Tour aims to create thematic and story-filled experiences in every destination city.
3. Station Branding as a Tourism Gateway
Every station will be polished with city-specific icons and visual installations so that tourists immediately feel the destination's atmosphere from the moment they step off the train.
4. Transportation Services and Tour Guides
Later, there will be shuttle or bus support from the station to tourist destinations, as well as the presence of regional tour guides to strengthen the service and image of East Java tourism.
The East Java Rail Tour program through the Around the World Without a Passport by Train campaign is expected to become a model of cross-regional tourism collaboration based on public transportation that can be emulated nationally," said Suharjono.
Synergy for Regional Economy and Tourism
KAI believes that public transportation-based tourism can be a smart solution to encourage sustainable regional economic and tourism growth.
Through Rail Tour, tourists not only enjoy the beauty of the destination, but also directly contribute to the local economy, from culinary around the station, small lodgings, to regional MSMEs.
"Through this collaboration, it will also open up synergistic space to enhance the economic impact of regional tourism and expand public transportation services together," said Suharjono.
Exploring East Java Without Hassle
With the East Java Rail Tour program, exploring the beauty of the province is now easier and more exciting. Just take the train, enjoy the scenery, and let the journey become part of the holiday.
Because in this new era, tourism is not always about the destination but also about the journey taken.(Antara)
