Indonesia is once again showcasing its charm to the world. Through the Mega Familiarization Trip (Mega Famtrip) 2025 program, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) invites global travel industry players to explore five leading destinations firsthand: Lombok, Bandung, Labuan Bajo, Yogyakarta, and East Java (Surabaya–Malang).

More than just a promotional tour, this activity is designed as an immersive experience, giving global tourism industry players the opportunity to directly feel the uniqueness and diversity of Indonesian tourism products, from culinary delights and culture to authentic nature adventures.

Promotion Strategy with an Experiential Touch

Kemenparekraf's Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, emphasized the importance of an experience-based promotion strategy to maintain Indonesia's position on the world tourism map.

“In organizing this Mega Famtrip, we carry the GoBeyondOrdinary campaign to introduce the Indonesian tourism experience through various new and fresh premium products, highlighting cultural uniqueness, natural beauty, and tourism experiences that focus on delivering an experience,” stated Made in her remarks in Jakarta, Saturday, 25 October 2025.

She added, for Indonesia to remain a top of mind destination in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and America, a more personal approach is needed—providing space for potential international partners such as travel agents (TA) and tour operators (TO) to truly understand the potential of each destination.

Five Destinations, Five Experience Characters

This Mega Famtrip program runs from 9–17 October 2025, featuring 35 leading travel operators from various countries. Participants were divided into five groups, each exploring a destination with a different character:

Lombok, focusing on marine tourism and spiritual balance, highlights the beauty of Mandalika Beach and the traditional village of Sade.

Bandung, offering urban-culture charm and creative culinary delights, blends colonial heritage with a modern lifestyle.

Labuan Bajo, showcasing the wonders of Komodo National Park, world-class diving spots, and the eco-luxury resort concept which is now a magnet for global tourists.

Yogyakarta, the center of Javanese cultural and spiritual heritage, and also one of the epicenters of creative tourism in Indonesia.

Surabaya–Malang, presenting a combination of urban tourism and nature adventure in the Bromo–Tengger–Semeru area.

According to UNWTO (2025), the current global tourism trend is moving towards "experience-based travel," where tourists seek authentic and personal experiences, not just popular destinations. Kemenparekraf's step through the GoBeyondOrdinary campaign aligns with this trend direction.

Encouraging Collaboration and the Tourism Ecosystem

The Mega Famtrip 2025 activity also serves as a momentum to strengthen cross-sector collaboration. This program involves synergy between Kemenparekraf, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (through Indonesian Embassies and Consulates), the hospitality industry, airlines, restaurants, and event organizers.

Kemenparekraf notes that throughout 2024–2025, foreign tourist arrivals (wisman) from European, Middle Eastern, and American markets showed an average growth of 10–15% per year. With experience-based promotions like this, Indonesia targets an increase in visits to 11 million foreign tourists by 2026.

Besides strengthening business networks, this program is also expected to encourage sustainable tourism investment, especially in wellness tourism, marine tourism, and gastronomy, three categories currently on the rise in the global market.

According to Statista Travel Outlook 2025, wellness tourism is projected to grow by up to 15% globally, while culinary tourism has become one of the main reasons for international travel for 1 in 3 young travelers.

Tourism that Delivers an Experience, Not Just a Visit

Mega Famtrip 2025 indicates a new direction for Indonesian tourism: not just selling destinations, but offering journeys filled with stories, flavors, and meaning.

Through the "beyond ordinary" concept, Indonesia is no longer just talking about beaches, mountains, or culture—but about how every journey can touch the emotional and spiritual sides of tourists.

From surfing on Lombok's beaches, exploring ancient caves in Gunungkidul, to enjoying the sunset in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia offers more than just scenery; it offers life experiences.
