Herdman Names 26 Players for the 2026 AFF Cup, Indonesia National Team Chases Their Maiden Championship Title.

Indonesia National Team coach John Herdman has selected 26 players to strengthen the Garuda squad for the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup, the tournament formerly known as the AFF Cup. A combination of senior players and young talents forms Herdman's foundation as he aims to bring Indonesia to end the long wait for a championship title.

A number of experienced players who have been the team's backbone over the past several years have been retained. Rizky Ridho, Jordi Amat, Thom Haye, Marc Klok, Marselino Ferdinan, Nadeo Argawinata, and Beckham Putra have once again been trusted with a call up.

Herdman also included several players who have just joined their new clubs for the 2026/2027 Super League season. Sandy Walsh and Ragnar Oratmangoen, who now play for Persib Bandung, made the list, alongside Tim Geypens of Bali United.

The majority of the called up players compete in domestic competitions. A total of 24 out of the 26 players are currently playing in the Super League, with only 2 players plying their trade abroad.

Justin Hubner remains a key figure in the defensive line after continuing his career with Fortuna Sittard in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Mitchell Baker, who had just officially obtained Indonesian citizenship, was immediately called up following his season with Vermont Green in the United States.

Indonesia is placed in Group A alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, and Timor Leste. Garuda's campaign will kick off with a home match against Cambodia at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor, on Monday 27 July. Afterwards, Indonesia will face Timor Leste in Chonburi on 31 July, host Vietnam at Pakansari on 3 August, before closing the group stage with an away fixture against Singapore at Jalan Besar Stadium on 7 August.

This tournament is Indonesia's opportunity to shed the status as the team with the most runner-up finishes in AFF Cup history. Garuda have reached the final match on six separate occasions, but have never lifted the trophy.
