Indonesia National Team is preparing to face a distinct challenge when hosting Mozambique for this FIFA Match Day fixture at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, on Tuesday 9 June 2026. After delivering a solid performance to defeat Oman, Garuda Squad will now be tested against the characteristic playing style of African sides: one built entirely on raw pace and rapid transition play.
Indonesia head coach John Herdman assessed that Mozambique holds a very clear defined playing identity. This African nation is notoriously aggressive on counter attacks, and can flip from defending to full attacking movement in mere seconds.
"This Mozambique national side comes from Africa. They have an extremely specific playing Profile: transitional, high intensity pace. We have to be fully prepared for everything they will bring," stated John Herdman during the pre-match press conference held at SUGBK Jakarta, Monday.

Herdman's wariness is not unfounded. Indonesia's coaching staff have directly scouted Mozambique's full performance during their friendly fixture against Oman at Patriot Chandrabhaga Stadium, Bekasi, on Sunday 7 June 2026.
In that match, Mozambique demonstrated a clear game plan built entirely around fast counter attacks. This strategy carries significant risk for Indonesia, who have consistently sought to dominate matches through ball possession and high pressing inside the opponent's half.
Herdman acknowledged that his team regularly operates with a high defensive line, and commits large numbers of players forward into attacking zones. While this approach grants control over match tempo, it also leaves open gaps that opposition sides can exploit.
For this reason, the duel against Mozambique is viewed as a critical test for Garuda Squad to strike the correct balance between attacking aggression and defensive discipline.
"We are fully aware that when they play balls in behind our defensive line, that will become a major problem for us because of their pace," he noted.
The English coach explained that committing players high line strategy exists to strengthen ball possession dominance and generate more scoring chances. However, the effectiveness of this system will always depend on being able to maintain organised defensive structure.
Indonesia's core priority is not only scoring goals, but executing clean defensive transitions whenever they lose possession. This dynamic is predicted to be one of the key factors that will determine the Match Result at GBK.
Herdman specifically wants to evaluate how Indonesia's defensive players can maintain full concentration for the full duration of the match, while dealing with the constant pace threat from Mozambique.
"And once again: keeping a clean sheet. That will be absolutely critical for this fixture," he concluded.
