Neymar's long journey with the Brazilian national team has come to an end. The 34-year-old forward has decided he will no longer represent the Selecao following the 2026 World Cup, closing out 16 years of service at the international level.
"I feel that the good times with the Brazilian national team are over. I have made my mark there and I am very happy with everything I achieved," Neymar told Esporte Record, as quoted by UOL Esporte on Wednesday.
Neymar made his debut for the Samba Boys in 2010, going on to become one of Brazil's key players across multiple international tournaments.

Over his 16 years with the national side, the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player recorded 130 appearances, with 80 goals and 59 assists to his name.
These statistics place Neymar as one of the most prolific players in Selecao history. Nevertheless, his international career will conclude after the 2026 World Cup.
Neymar's Final Match For Brazil
Brazil's clash against Norway in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16 was Neymar's final appearance for the Selecao.
In that match, Brazil fell 1-2 to Norway. Neymar scored the only goal for his side in the fixture.
Despite still being eligible to play at the 2028 Copa America, Neymar has confirmed he will not continue his international career.
"I gained so much experience there. I gave my whole heart and my entire life to the Brazilian national team. I always fought for that yellow jersey, but I just don't want it anymore," he stated.
Focusing On Santos
Following his retirement from the Brazilian national team, Neymar will be able to focus more fully on his club career at Santos.
This international retirement decision gives Neymar greater flexibility to manage his physical condition. In recent years, the Brazilian player's career has been repeatedly disrupted by injuries which caused him to miss a number of crucial matches.
With no further international commitments, Neymar can dedicate his focus to maintaining his fitness and extending his club playing career.
