Amid an atmosphere of waiting and uncertainty in Indonesia, news emerges from Thailand which has announced a new coach for their national football team. The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) officially appointed Anthony Hudson as the new coach replacing Masatada Ishii.
The announcement was delivered directly by FAT President Nualphan Lamsam, familiarly known as Madam Pang, via her personal Facebook account. In her statement, Pang emphasized this decision was an emergency measure to fill the vacancy in the head coach position.
“During this critical and urgent period, Pang along with the technical department has decided to appoint Anthony Hudson, the Association's Technical Development Director, to immediately assume the role,” wrote Madam Pang on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 evening WIB.

FAT's swift action came just one day after dismissing Masatada Ishii, the Japanese coach who previously led the War Elephants squad. Ishii's dismissal occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The reason for termination was a difference in vision between the coach and the federation.
Though the process seemed abrupt, FAT appeared to have prepared a list of replacement candidates. Big names like Shin Tae-yong, Park Hang-seo, Anthony Hudson, and Kiatisuk Senamuang had been announced as potential new coaches before Hudson was ultimately selected.
"Thailand is one of the countries I love. I want to realize this by taking Thailand to the Asian Cup finals and impressing all fans with my performance," said Hudson after officially becoming Thailand's coach as quoted from Naewna.
Contrast in Indonesia
While Thailand demonstrated speed and decisiveness, PSSI remains entangled in the search process for a new coach for the Indonesian National Team.
After sacking Patrick Kluivert who failed to qualify Indonesia for the 2026 World Cup, PSSI has yet to appoint a replacement coach, even for an interim position.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Team will soon face FIFA Match Day in November 2025. With time running short, the public wonders who will lead the Garuda squad in these matches?
On one hand, FAT's rapid decision shows organizational efficiency willing to take risks to maintain their national team's momentum. On the other, PSSI's sluggish pace illustrates structural complexities that seemingly recur with every required coaching change.
