31 Coolest Streets in the World by Time Out, One of Them Is Located in Indonesia

Exploring a city does not need to revolve around its main tourist landmarks. Small back streets lined with cafes, restaurants, local shops and creative spaces are very often the best places to experience the authentic everyday life of local residents.

Time Out has compiled a list of the 31 coolest streets in the world based on late 2025 data. The ranking was put together with input from editors across multiple countries, to select streets with the strongest distinct identity across culture, cuisine, arts and community life.

Europe dominates the list with 10 entries total, while eight Asian countries contributed 9 locations. Most notably, Jalan Kemang Raya from Jakarta, Indonesia appeared on the ranking alongside iconic streets from Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom and Spain.

Kemang Raya's inclusion confirms this district is not only well-known among Jakarta locals, but is also gaining global recognition as an urban destination offering unique immersive experiences.

Time Out assessed that Jalan Kemang Raya holds a strong identity as a creative community hub. Despite its well-known heavy traffic, this area remains a major draw for both tourists and local residents thanks to its art galleries, independent boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and street food vendors.

This combination of arts, cuisine and modern lifestyle has established Kemang Raya as one of the most distinctive character areas in Indonesia's capital.

First place on the list was awarded to Rua do Senado in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This historic street stays alive around the clock with traditional bars, modern restaurants, live samba performances and active public art spaces.

Orange Street in Osaka, Japan took second position. This street is a popular destination for fashion lovers, vintage furniture collectors, cafe enthusiasts and shoppers of local artisan goods.

Third place went to Rua do Bonjardim in Porto, Portugal, a street lined with long-established legendary restaurants, boutique hotels and a wide selection of culinary spots.

Alongside Jalan Kemang Raya, other Asian representatives on the list include Fanghua Street (Chengdu), Joo Chiat Road (Singapore), Vĩnh Khánh Street (Ho Chi Minh City), Nishihara Shotengai (Tokyo), Charoen Nakhon Road (Bangkok), and Jalan Pudu (Kuala Lumpur).

Major global cities including New York, London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Berlin, Dubai, Vancouver, Buenos Aires and Cape Town also have streets featured on this ranking.

This list demonstrates that streets are no longer merely transport access routes: they have evolved into centres of public life, spaces for cultural expression, culinary destinations, and gathering spaces for creative communities.
