FIFA has officially released the Team of the Tournament for the 2026 World Cup, following the conclusion of the football tournament hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. None of the 11 selected players include Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo, nor Spain's breakout young star Lamine Yamal.

Both players missed out on FIFA's official best XI, despite representing their nations at the 2026 World Cup. In contrast, Ronaldo's long-time rival Lionel Messi was named in the forward line after captaining Argentina all the way through to the tournament final.

The 2026 World Cup Team of the Tournament uses a 4-3-3 formation, with 11 players selected from 6 different countries. World champions Spain and semi-finalists France contributed the most representatives, with 3 players named from each nation.

FIFA selected Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha for the number one spot, edging out Unai Simon - despite the Spanish shot-stopper having led La Roja to World Cup glory and also claiming the tournament Golden Glove award.

The 40-year-old Cape Verdean goalkeeper grabbed global attention after keeping a clean sheet to hold Spain to a goalless draw in their opening group stage fixture.

Across the full tournament, Vozinha recorded 18 saves, ranking him as the 8th busiest goalkeeper at the 2026 World Cup. Paraguay's Orlando Gill finished with the most saves overall, registering 28 stops throughout the competition.

In the defensive line, FIFA selected Spain duo Pedro Porro and Marc Cucurella, alongside Dayot Upamecano (France) and Lisandro Martínez (Argentina).

Porro and Cucurella were core pillars of the Spanish defence that conceded just one single goal across the entire tournament.

This selection has sparked public debate however, as Spain centre-backs Aymeric Laporte and Pau Cubarsi both delivered consistent elite performances throughout the World Cup. Notably, Cubarsi was also awarded the 2026 World Cup Best Young Player prize.

Lisandro Martínez featured in 7 out of Argentina's 8 matches, before being forced off with injury during the final. Upamecano meanwhile formed part of the French defence that conceded only 2 goals right up until the semi-final stage.

For the midfield positions, FIFA named Rodri, Jude Bellingham and Michael Olise.

Rodri was awarded the Golden Ball as the 2026 World Cup's best player, having operated as the tactical engine of Spain's title winning campaign.

Olise delivered a standout tournament, registering 7 assists - just one short of the long-standing World Cup record set by France legend Raymond Kopa in 1958.

Bellingham scored 7 goals for England, finishing third in the race for the tournament Golden Boot.

The forward line is comprised of the three most prolific attackers of the entire tournament: Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland.

Mbappé retained his Golden Boot title, finishing with a final tally of 10 goals and 4 assists. The French striker also set a new all-time World Cup goalscoring record, now holding 22 total goals across 3 tournament editions.

Messi once again demonstrated his world class ability, leading Argentina to their third World Cup final in the last four editions of the tournament. He ended the competition with 8 goals and 4 assists.

Haaland completes the front three following his clinical finishing for Norway. The Manchester City striker finished the World Cup with 7 goals, helping his nation achieve their deepest ever run at the tournament.
