Events in Jakarta Increase Tourist Arrivals and Economic Activity

Jakarta is not only synonymous with the nation's business and government hub, but also stands as a tourism destination. Various year-round events serve as a new magnet that drives economic activity while boosting tourist arrivals from both domestic and international origins.

Events hosted in the city span festivals, concerts, exhibitions, all the way to international sporting programmes.

"These varied activities have successfully driven tourism economic activity and public consumption. Tourism performance indicators also show extremely significant growth. This is demonstrated by domestic tourist trips to Jakarta reaching 8.82 million visits. This is a very high figure for the capital," stated DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo during an official address in Jakarta.

Beyond domestic visitor growth, international tourist arrivals also recorded positive growth, rising 8.17 percent to a total of 1.04 million visits.

This upward trend confirms that Jakarta is increasingly established as a city that offers diverse tourism experiences.

To preserve this positive momentum, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is strengthening public transport connectivity, in order to make it easier for tourists to reach attraction sites and event venues across the city.

"For this reason, to maintain this momentum, the Jakarta Administration continues to improve public transport services and supporting infrastructure, building an increasingly well-integrated system across MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek and other transport modes," Pramono explained.

One such initiative is the launch of the Pegangsaan Dua - Manggarai LRT line. Pramono expressed confidence that this route will simplify public mobility while supporting tourism operations across Jakarta.

"Initially it may only serve 50-60 thousand passengers daily, but it will be capable of reaching 80,000 passengers. The same applies for MRT development: MRT Phase 2A Bundaran HI to Kota is on track to become fully connected within this year, before the end of 2025," he added.

Alongside the new LRT line, the completion of MRT Phase 2A Bundaran HI-Kota is expected to further solidify Jakarta's integrated public transport network.

Pramono further emphasized that accessible transport is one of the most critical factors that supports sustainable growth for the tourism sector.

When mobility runs smoothly, wider economic activity also progresses, as tourists gain easier access to culinary hubs, historical precincts, shopping districts, and every location hosting public events.
