Defeating Bosnia, the United States follows Canada and Mexico into the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

The United States beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match held at Levi's Stadium, Thursday morning WIB. This result officially completes the milestone for all three tournament host nations, as all have now secured qualification to the Round of 16.

Before the United States secured their spot, Canada and Mexico had already confirmed their place in the next knockout round.

Mauricio Pochettino's side followed the path of their fellow host nations, even after being reduced to 10 players for most of the second half.

The United States took control of the match through dominant ball possession. In the 31st minute, the crowd at Levi's Stadium erupted as Folarin Balogun scored a well-taken goal, though the strike was immediately disallowed by the referee after Balogun was ruled to be in an offside position.

Balogun eventually registered a valid goal on the scoresheet in the 45th minute. The United States forward converted his chance with an accurate finish, putting his side 1-0 ahead heading into half-time.

As the second half began, the United States continued their aggressive playing style. Bosnia-Herzegovina also started moving forward to attack, though they did not push forward with full offensive commitment.

The match dynamic shifted in the 64th minute, when Balogun was shown a straight red card for stamping on Tarik Muharemovic's foot. VAR replay confirmed the contact during the ball challenge, resulting in the referee ordering Balogun off the pitch.

The numerical advantage allowed Bosnia to increase attacking pressure, however the United States defensive line remained disciplined and organised.

The United States found the back of Bosnia's net again in the 79th minute through Christian Pulisic, though this goal was also disallowed for an offside call against Pulisic.

The United States finally doubled their lead in the 82nd minute. Malik Tillman scored with a curling free kick taken from outside the penalty area, extending the scoreline to 2-0.

Until the full time whistle, Bosnia-Herzegovina failed to capitalise on their extra player advantage to close the deficit.

This 2-0 victory confirms the United States' progression to the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
