Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2026 is once again projected to be far more than just a fashion event. The Ministry of Tourism assesses that IFW plays a critical role in introducing Indonesia's rich cultural heritage, while simultaneously boosting tourist interest to visit various leading destinations across the country.

By building its core concept around showcasing the rich traditional wastra textiles from all regions of the archipelago, IFW serves as a bridge connecting the fashion industry with the tourism sector. This combination of culture, creativity, and destination promotion forms the consistent appeal that draws public attention year after year.

Ni Komang Ayu Astiti, Assistant Deputy for National Events at the Ministry of Tourism, stated that IFW is expected to continue growing as an event that enriches national culture while also supporting promotion for Indonesian tourist destinations.

"Going forward, we hope this event will keep developing and progressing, continue to enrich community culture, and at the same time also support tourism destination promotion," stated Ni Komang Ayu Astiti in Jakarta.

According to her, the annually updated themes that highlight the diversity of Nusantara traditional textiles across different regions successfully create fresh appeal, which in turn drives travel movement for both domestic and international tourists.

This goal aligns with the government's 2026 targets: to raise international tourist arrivals to between 16 and 17.6 million visits, as well as reach 1.18 billion domestic tourist movements across the archipelago.

Beyond its impact on the tourism sector, IFW is also designed to act as a development platform for regional fashion designers to pursue continuous innovation.

Meanwhile, Poppy Darsono, President of Indonesia Fashion Week and General Chair of the Indonesian Fashion Designers & Entrepreneurs Association (APPMI), explained that this year's ulos theme forms part of efforts to preserve Indonesia's cultural heritage through a modernised approach.

"This is not only about ulos as cultural heritage. It is also about how the authentic traditional wealth of the Nusantara can be interpreted in contemporary ways, carry tangible economic added value, and build Indonesia's reputation on the global stage," she stated.

Poppy emphasised that cultural preservation cannot be achieved by only maintaining static traditions. Culture must be given space to evolve, so it remains relevant and continues to provide inspiration for future generations.

Alongside acting as a showcase for national professional designers, IFW 2026 also opens expanded opportunities for fashion sector MSMEs and creative industry actors to grow their market reach and improve the competitiveness of local products.

With the rich heritage of Nusantara traditional textiles positioned as a core national identity, Indonesia Fashion Week 2026 is expected to strengthen Indonesia's global profile as a leading cultural tourism destination.
