All three host nations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have advanced to the knockout stage. Mexico delivered the most impressive group stage performance, finishing as winners of Group A. The United States meanwhile claimed top spot in Group D despite suffering a defeat in their final group match. Canada completed the host nations' success by qualifying for the Round of 32 as Group B runners-up.

Mexico stands as the only host nation with an unbeaten perfect record in the group stage. El Tri collected nine points from three matches, rounding off their group campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic at Azteca Stadium, Mexico City on Thursday WIB.

Playing in front of tens of thousands of home supporters, Mexico immediately took attacking initiative right from the opening whistle. Despite controlling the match flow and creating multiple scoring chances, the hosts were unable to break the deadlock before the first half concluded.

The deadlock was finally broken in the second half when Mateo Chavez successfully put Mexico ahead 1-0. This goal became the turning point as El Tri grew increasingly confident and took full command of the fixture.

Just six minutes later, Julian Quinones doubled Mexico's lead. Javier Aguirre's side continued to press the Czech defense relentlessly, before Alvaro Fidalgo scored the third goal in the 90+4th minute to seal the convincing 3-0 victory.

This result confirmed Mexico finished the group stage with a perfect maximum haul of nine points from three matches. Their status as Group A winners also establishes El Tri as one of the strongest contenders for the 2026 World Cup title.

Meanwhile, the United States' path to the knockout stage unfolded in far more dramatic fashion. Playing at Los Angeles Stadium early Friday WIB, the host nation was narrowly beaten 2-3 by Turkey in their final Group D fixture.

The United States had opened the scoring through a headed goal from Auston Trusty. However Turkey responded quickly via Arda Guler, before Orkun Kokcu put the away side 2-1 ahead heading into the half-time break.

Shortly after the second half commenced, Sebastian Berhalter levelled the scores at 2-2 just three minutes after the restart. However, Kaan Ayhan scored Turkey's winning goal in stoppage time, meaning the United States closed out the group stage with a defeat.

Despite this result, the loss did not prevent the United States from progressing to the Round of 32. With six points collected from three matches, the host nation still finished as Group D winners and retained their place in the knockout phase.

Fellow host nation Canada also secured successful qualification. Despite falling 1-2 to Switzerland at BC Place Stadium, Vancouver, Canada still booked their spot in the Round of 32 thanks to a superior goal difference over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Switzerland took an early lead through Ruben Vargas, before Johan Manzambi extended their advantage to 2-0. Canada could only pull one goal back via Promise David, but this defeat was still sufficient for them to finish as Group B runners-up with six points.

These results complete the clean sweep of host nations progressing to the 2026 World Cup knockout stage: Mexico and the United States qualified as group winners, while Canada advances as a group runner-up.
