Qatar's run at the 2026 World Cup has come to an end. The Maroons became the first Asian nation eliminated from the tournament, exiting early from North America after falling 1-3 to Bosnia-Herzegovina in their final Group B fixture.
Heading into this final match, Qatar still held a realistic chance of extending their stay in World Football's biggest competition. Their poor performance in Seattle however confirmed they were outmatched by Switzerland and Canada, who delivered far more consistent form across the entire group stage.
This defeat to Bosnia leaves Qatar anchored at the foot of the Group B table, having registered just one point from three matches. This campaign ranks as one of the most disappointing showings by an Asian side at the 2026 World Cup.

Julen Lopetegui's squad had opened the tournament with a draw against Switzerland, an initial result that had raised cautious optimism. That positive momentum collapsed completely in their second match, when they were handed a brutal 0-6 thrashing by Canada.
The clash against Bosnia-Herzegovina was Qatar's final lifeline to salvage their advancement chances. Unfortunately, the side once again failed to perform under opposition pressure, slumping to the 1-3 loss.
Bosnia broke the deadlock in the 29th minute via a solo run and finish from Kerim Alajbegovic. Their lead doubled just five minutes later, when Qatar defender Sultan Al Brake turned the ball into his own net.
Qatar pulled a goal back through Hassan Al Haydos in the 42nd minute, but Ermin Mahmic put the result beyond doubt with Bosnia's third strike in the 80th minute.
Qatar's dismal 2026 World Cup exit stands in sharp contrast to their recent continental dominance. The side claimed the 2019 Asian Cup title, then successfully defended their crown at the 2023 edition of the tournament.
Off the back of this regional success, Qatar had been widely tipped as an emerging new power in Asian football. This World Cup campaign has however laid bare the massive gap between continental and global competition standards.
Across the entire group stage, Qatar scored only 2 goals while conceding 10. This stat perfectly illustrates the side's fundamental struggles balancing offensive output and defensive stability.
The 0-6 blowout loss to Canada drew particular criticism, as it marked one of the most one-sided defeats suffered by any Asian representative at the 2026 World Cup.
Final Group B Standings confirm Qatar finish rock bottom on 1 point. They sit below Switzerland on 7 points, followed by Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina who both finished level on 4 points.
