Switzerland and Canada Qualify, Bosnia-Herzegovina Keeps Hopes Alive for the 2026 World Cup Round of 32

The race in 2026 World Cup Group B concluded with two teams confirming their spot in the Round of 32. Switzerland topped the group after defeating Canada 2-1. Despite losing their final group fixture, Canada still advanced as group runners-up.

Playing at BC Stadium Vancouver on local Wednesday time, Switzerland demonstrated their quality as the most consistent side in Group B.

With this additional three points, Switzerland finished the group stage with 7 points collected from 3 matches played.

Meanwhile, Canada secured 2nd place in the final Standings of Group B thanks to a superior goal difference over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Right from kick-off, Switzerland played aggressively, pinning Canada deep inside their defensive half. Johan Manzambi repeatedly forced Canadian Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau into critical saves to protect his goal.

Despite dominating the entire flow of the first half, Switzerland were unable to break the deadlock. The score remained 0-0 heading into the half-time break.

Shortly after the second half commenced, Switzerland finally opened the scoring. Manzambi delivered a through ball that Ruben Vargas converted, Putting Switzerland 1-0 up in the 46th minute.

Switzerland maintained their pressure. In the 57th minute, Manzambi himself got on the scoresheet after finishing an assist from Breel Embolo, extending Switzerland's lead to 2-0.

Canada attempted to stage a comeback, and managed to pull one goal back in the 76th minute through Promise David, who properly converted a crossed delivery from Nathan Saliba.

However, Switzerland held on to their 2-1 lead until the final whistle, officially locking in their status as Group B winners.

In the other group fixture, Bosnia and Herzegovina kept their Round of 32 qualification hopes alive after defeating Qatar 3-1 at Lumen Field Stadium, Seattle.

With this result, Bosnia collected 4 points, leaving open qualification chances as one of the best third-placed teams across all tournament groups.

Bosnia applied constant pressure right from the match start. After squandering multiple early goalscoring opportunities, they finally took the lead in the 29th minute via an individual solo run from Kerim Alajbegovic.

Bosnia doubled their advantage just five minutes later, after Qatar defender Sultan Al Brake scored an own goal.

Qatar managed to reduce the deficit through a goal from Hassan Al Haydos in the 42nd minute, but Bosnia restored their two-goal cushion when Ermin Mahmic scored in the 80th minute. The match ended with a 3-1 final score for Bosnia.

Final Group B Standings place Switzerland at the top with 7 points, followed by Canada (4 points), Bosnia and Herzegovina (4 points), while Qatar finishes bottom of the group with 1 point.
