Colombia secured their place in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32 after overcoming a fierce challenge from the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a 1-0 victory in the second Group K fixture at Estadio Guadalajara, Zapopan, early Wednesday WIB. A goal from Daniel Muñoz was the deciding factor for Colombia's win.

This victory also confirms Los Cafeteros' status as one of the most consistent teams in Group K. With this additional three points, Nestor Lorenzo's squad have locked in their knockout stage ticket before the final group match is played.

DR Congo created a threat just one minute after kickoff. Edo Kayembe's shot from outside the penalty box drifted wide of the target.

Colombia responded through Daniel Muñoz in the 4th minute. Collecting a rebound inside the penalty area, Muñoz struck his effort wide of Lionel Mpasi's goal.

Muñoz did later find the back of Congo's net, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Separate attempts from James Rodriguez and Gustavo Puerta were also denied by Lionel Mpasi. The score remained 0-0 at half time.

Entering the second half, Luis Diaz saw his 50th minute chance stopped by Mpasi. Colombia's deadlock was finally broken in the 75th minute by Muñoz, who had threatened Congo's goal repeatedly throughout the match.

His strike from inside the penalty box deflected off a Congolese player's leg, wrongfooting Mpasi to put Colombia 1-0 ahead.

Colombia appeared to extend their lead through Luis Diaz shortly after, however this goal was also disallowed for an offside position against Diaz.

The 1-0 scoreline for Colombia held until the final whistle.
