Cristiano Ronaldo finally found his clinical finishing form at the 2026 World Cup. The Portugal captain scored a brace as he guided his side to a crushing 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in the second Group K fixture at Houston Stadium, United States, on Wednesday.

This win served as the perfect response after Portugal were held to a 1-1 Draw against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in their opening match. With the additional three points, Selecao das Quinas now holds 4 points and temporarily tops the Group K Standings.

For Ronaldo, this match was a crucial moment after he failed to register a goal in the first game.

Portugal immediately pressed Uzbekistan's defence from the very first minute. This paid off with an early lead after just six minutes of play.

Joao Cancelo delivered a low cross from the right flank, which Ronaldo connected with a right-footed strike past Uzbekistan Goalkeeper Abduvokhid Nematov. Portugal took a 1-0 lead.

This goal marked Ronaldo's first goal at the 2026 World Cup.

Portugal continued their total dominance. Nuno Mendes doubled the lead with a perfectly executed Free kick in the 17th minute, taking the score to 2-0.

Aziz Ganiev briefly managed to beat Portugal's keeper with a long-range shot, however VAR detected a foul during the goal build-up and the official disallowed the goal.

Right before half time, Ronaldo scored his second goal. This time he converted a through ball from Bruno Fernandes in the 39th minute, extending Portugal's advantage to 3-0.

Heading into the second half, Roberto Martinez's side did not relax their pressure. Portugal's fourth goal came in the 60th minute via an own goal from Abdukodir Khusanov.

Rafael Leao closed out Portugal's goal rout in the 87th minute, confirming the final 5-0 victory for the side.

This result places Portugal in an ideal position to qualify for the knockout stage.
