Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he will not make any decision regarding the continuation of his international career until Portugal's entire 2026 World Cup campaign concludes. The megastar is currently fully focused on guiding Selecao das Quinas as far as possible in the tournament.
This statement was delivered by Ronaldo after Portugal secured their spot in the Round of 16, following a 2-1 victory over Croatia in a match held in Toronto, Canada on Friday WIB.
Ronaldo emphasized that discussions about his future are not a current priority. The 41-year-old Al Nassr striker wants to savour every moment at this World Cup before considering his next step in international football.

"The future does not matter right now. I will address it. I will have time, once we either progress or exit the tournament, to speak with my family, then make a decision as I always do," Ronaldo was quoted as saying by ESPN.
This announcement also quelled speculation that the 2026 World Cup might be the final international tournament for the player who has notched 146 goals for the Portuguese national side.
Against Croatia, Ronaldo once again demonstrated his role as the team's leader. He scored the equalising goal via a penalty before being substituted off in the 81st minute.
For Ronaldo, this victory was not achieved easily. Portugal had to work hard against Croatia's relentless resistance before finally locking in their place in the knockout stage.
"This is football. To win a competition of this scale, we have to learn to endure the struggle. This was a very exciting match for the fans," stated Ronaldo, who holds 146 international goals to his name.
Portugal's winning goal was eventually netted by AC Milan forward Goncalo Ramos. The super-sub revealed he already had confidence he could be the difference maker even before entering the pitch.
"Ronaldo told me I would help the team. And at half time, I told everyone not to worry, that if I came on, I would score," said Ramos.
Progressing past Croatia has set Portugal up for one of the most high-profile matches of the Round of 16. Selecao das Quinas are scheduled to face their long-time rivals and neighbours Spain, in a highly charged prestige duel to be held in Dallas, Texas, in the early hours of Tuesday WIB.
