Group K of the 2026 World Cup brings together four nations from four separate confederations. Portugal representing Europe, DR Congo from Africa, Uzbekistan from Asia, and Colombia from South America will compete to secure qualification spots for the knockout stage.
On paper, Portugal is the overwhelming favourite to lead this group. Equipped with decades of experience on the global stage and a mature, well-balanced squad, Os Navegadores arrive in North America with massive ambition: to end their long wait and claim the country's very first World Cup title.
The 2026 World Cup also carries special meaning for Cristiano Ronaldo. Now 41 years old, this legendary forward is widely expected to compete in his final World Cup tournament, having made 6 consecutive finals appearances since his international debut in 2006.

For Ronaldo, lifting the World Cup Trophy would serve as the perfect conclusion to his international career. To date, the national captain has recorded 227 caps for Portugal, with 143 goals and 46 assists to his name.
Winning the tournament would also mark the greatest achievement in the history of Portuguese Football. Across 8 previous World Cup participations, Portugal's best results remain 3rd place at the 1966 World Cup and 4th place at the 2006 edition.
At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Portugal's run was ended at the Quarter Final stage after suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat against Morocco.
Despite their favourite status, Portugal cannot afford to underestimate their opponents. Colombia is one of the most experienced sides in this group. After missing out on Qatar 2022 qualification, Los Cafeteros returned to the world stage after finishing 3rd in the CONMEBOL qualifiers, only behind Argentina and Ecuador.
Colombia's return makes the Group K contest even more compelling. This South American side has a strong World Cup pedigree, and is set to become Portugal's main challenger for the top position in the group Standings.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan brings enormous energy as one of the most inspiring underdog stories from Asia. This Central Asian nation has made history by qualifying for the World Cup finals for the first time ever.
Uzbekistan's journey to North America was highly impressive. They secured automatic qualification after finishing as runners-up in Group A of the Asian qualifiers third round with 21 points, only 2 points behind group leaders Iran.
Their debutant status works as an advantage for Uzbekistan, as they will compete without heavy pressure and carry genuine upset potential.
DR Congo also deserves special attention. This African nation returns to the World Cup after an extremely long absence, having last appeared at the tournament in 1974 when the country was still known as Zaire.
Led by Aaron Wan-Bissaka, DR Congo confirmed their finals spot after winning a play-off tie against Nigeria. Eliminating one of Africa's traditional football powerhouses proves this side has the quality to compete in this group.
Portugal is tipped to finish as group winners. The battle for the remaining automatic qualification spot is predicted to be tightly contested between Colombia, Uzbekistan and DR Congo.
