Who would have thought, behind the glittering stage and microphone, an Indonesian diva would find her new calling in the martial arts arena. Kris Dayanti, the legendary singer, politician, and national entertainment icon, has just etched a surprising achievement on the international stage.
Not through music or the political stage, but through the deadly techniques of Chinese martial arts.
Kris Dayanti successfully brought home a silver medal in the Women’s Single Weapon Routines category at the prestigious 10th World Kungfu Championship held in Emeishan, China, from October 14–20, 2025. This event is an official competition under the auspices of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), the world's highest governing body for the sport of wushu.

This news was first shared directly by Kris Dayanti via a post on her personal Instagram account @krisdayantilemos.
“The second prize Women's Single-weapon routinesshanzi Group E,” she wrote.
The post showed Kris Dayanti looking confident in the arena, displaying graceful yet firm movements, a blend of strength and beauty characteristic of wushu. Another photo showed her silver medal and the official certificate of appreciation from the committee.
The category KD competed in was no ordinary one. Women’s Single Weapon Routines is an event demanding high precision, where athletes perform solo routines using weapons like swords, spears, or sticks. Every movement is judged on a combination of power, speed, and harmony.
From the Recording Studio to the Training Arena
Long before departing for China, Kris Dayanti had hinted at her preparations. Through posts on her Instagram, Krisdayanti shared her intense training activities.
“Training like it's a competition, today we did our last simulation training before departing for the international wushu competition in Emeishan, China, October 14–20. Pray for Indonesia to be champions, jiayou!!”
The word “jiayou” itself means “go for it!” or “come on!” in Mandarin, an expression that now seems like a new mantra for the “I’m Sorry Goodbye” singer.
In the upload, KD appeared in purple and pink wushu attire, performing movements full of power and balance. The costume, made from loose satin material allowing agility, is also part of the always-striking visual aesthetic of wushu.
Not Just a Hobby, But Official Representation
Kris Dayanti’s participation was not just a casual attempt. Her name was listed in the official documents of the 10th World Kungfu Championships as an athlete representing the Indonesian Wushu Association (IWuA) or Asosiasi Wushu Indonesia (AWI).
AWI is the official organization fostering wushu in Indonesia and actively sends athletes to international events like the SEA Games, Asian Games, and World Wushu Championships.
The fact that KD competed under the auspices of this official body indicates her participation went through a rigorous selection and training process. She wasn't just appearing as a public figure “greeting a different stage,” but truly as a disciplined athlete.
Discipline, Focus, and the Philosophy of Movement
Wushu is not just a sport. This martial art from China is an art that unites strength, precision, and calmness. KD’s training was conducted with professional coaches, using traditional weapons like dao (broadsword) and jian (straight sword).
This training demands not only physical strength but also breath control, flexibility, and sharp focus. A true wushu practitioner understands the philosophy of balance between body and soul, values that KD also applies in her career and life.
This silver medal achievement is proof that consistency and dedication can transcend professional boundaries. That transformation isn't about leaving the past behind, but rather channeling the fighting spirit in a new form.
About the World Kungfu Championships
The World Kungfu Championships (WKFC) was first held in 2004. According to the official website iwuf.org, this tournament serves as a means to preserve and popularize traditional Chinese martial arts worldwide.
Unlike modern wushu championships, the WKFC is more inclusive, opening opportunities for various styles and age groups. This year, the competition took place at the Sichuan International Tourism and Trading Expo Center in Emeishan City, Sichuan Province, China, a location known as one of the holy sites in wushu history.
Besides fierce competition, the WKFC also serves as a platform for cultural exchange. Athletes from various countries share knowledge, styles, and martial arts philosophies.
As a singer, politician, and now an athlete, Kris Dayanti shows that the fighting spirit knows no bounds of profession or age. With commitment and hard training, she brings the spirit of Indonesia to the world stage.
