However, the jubilation inside the Seattle stadium was extremely short-lived. Belgium responded with immediate intensity. Just two minutes later, Leandro Trossard delivered a pinpoint cross that was converted with a headed finish from Charles De Ketelaere.
Belgium entered the half-time break holding a 2-1 advantage.

In the 57th minute, Matt Freese committed a costly error when he ventured outside his penalty area and lost possession. Hans Vanaken took full unchallenged advantage of the situation, rolling the ball into the unguarded net. Belgium extended their lead to 3-1.
Things deteriorated further for the United States when captain Christian Pulisic was forced off the pitch with an injury only two minutes after this goal.
Belgium solidified their control of the match by bringing on star players Romelu Lukaku and Jeremy Doku. Their presence maintained Belgium's attacking tempo while completely shutting down any potential United States fightback.
For the remainder of regular time, the United States repeatedly pushed forward in search of a goal to keep their comeback hopes alive. Every attempt was neutralised however, thanks to Thibaut Courtois' commanding performance in goal.
Deep into stoppage time, Lukaku sealed Belgium's victory with a final goal in the 90+3rd minute.
Belgium concluded the match with a dominant 4-1 win, ending the host nation's 2026 World Cup campaign.
