The future of Bandung Zoo has entered a critical phase. Three renowned Conservation institutions have officially been shortlisted as new management candidates for this educational Tourism Destination that has formed an integral part of Bandung City's identity for decades.
The three participants in this management selection process are Taman Safari Indonesia, Faunaland, and Gembira Loka. The involvement of these major figures in wildlife conservation has sparked new hope for Bandung Zoo to transform into a modern Tourist Destination that prioritises animal welfare while remaining attractive to visitors.
For many travellers visiting Bandung, Bandung Zoo is far more than just a location to view animals. Its strategic position near the city centre makes it one of the most accessible family recreation spaces, with significant educational value.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan confirmed that the selection process has been resumed after all three candidates submitted the required official documentation.
"Based on reports I have received, the Bandung Zoo tender process will be reopened today and tomorrow. We have finally received resubmitted requirement documents from three participating parties," Farhan stated in Bandung on Monday, 8 June 2026.
According to Farhan, this stage is a decisive turning point, as it represents the final opportunity to appoint a new management team capable of steering Bandung Zoo towards meaningful improvements.
"I am quite anxious about this process, as I am not permitted to review the submitted documents directly. This really is our last chance," he added.
The search for new management has drawn widespread public attention, as the outcome will impact both the future of wildlife conservation at the site and the development of Bandung's Tourism sector.
Should this selection round once again fail to produce a winning candidate, the Bandung City Government will formally report process progress to the Ministry of Forestry and West Java Provincial Government to determine next steps.
"If this attempt fails again, I will meet with the Minister of Forestry to present a full progress report. I will also submit this report to the Governor. The three of us will then hold discussions to decide the future course of action for animal management at this location," he explained.
Farhan clarified that the assessment team is formed by the Bandung City Government, supported by expert personnel from the Ministry of Forestry and West Java Provincial Forestry Service. The involvement of these specialists is intended to ensure conservation standards and animal welfare are treated as the highest priority during evaluation.
"It must be understood that this tender process is being conducted with full seriousness. This is a high-value contract, meaning any changes to bid values submitted by participants require us to restart the full tender administration process," he stated.
New Hope for Bandung's Iconic Educational Tourism Landmark
Should the selection process proceed smoothly, Bandung Zoo is poised to enter a major phase of renewal. Modern zoos across Indonesia now operate not only as recreation spaces, but also place core focus on conservation work, scientific research, environmental education, and more interactive visitor experiences.
The arrival of experienced candidate operators including Taman Safari Indonesia, Faunaland, and Gembira Loka creates opportunity for a new operational concept that can upgrade facility standards, improve animal welfare, and enhance the overall visitor experience.
This development is welcome news for tourists. A successful transformation of Bandung Zoo could deliver a far more comfortable, educational Family Tourism destination that aligns with the fast-growing trend for Sustainable Tourism that has surged in popularity over recent years.
