Indonesia National Team will face Oman National Team in the FIFA Match Day fixture at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, Friday 5 June 2026 at 20.00 WIB. This match is not just an international friendly fixture, but also an opportunity for the Garuda Squad to end their long winless record against the side nicknamed Al-Ahmar.

It has been 38 years since Indonesia last secured a victory over Oman. Now, under the guidance of head coach John Herdman, Garuda are determined to rewrite history in front of their home supporters.

According to 11v11 records, Indonesia and Oman have met on six occasions. Out of these six meetings, Indonesia have recorded two wins, one draw, and suffered three defeats.

Both of Indonesia's victories came during the King's Cup tournament. In their first ever meeting, Garuda defeated Oman 2-0 on 24 February 1987.

One year later, Indonesia once again demonstrated their dominance with a convincing 3-0 win on 18 January 1988.

However, following those victories, Indonesia have struggled to repeat any positive results. Oman have gone on to dominate every subsequent meeting between the two nations.

In a 2007 friendly match, Indonesia were narrowly beaten 0-1 by Oman. Two years later, both sides met in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers and played out a goalless draw.

When they faced each other again in January 2010 in the same qualification tournament, Indonesia fell to a 1-2 defeat. This loss further extended Garuda's wait to get the better of Oman once again.

The most recent meeting between both teams took place in May 2021, when Indonesia were still managed by Shin Tae-yong. In that friendly fixture held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia suffered another defeat with a final score of 1-3.

Ahead of this upcoming clash at SUGBK, John Herdman acknowledged that this record presents a unique challenge for his squad. The English head coach hopes that full support from the fans will help Garuda claim a Historic Victory.

"As always, we hope the fans will fill GBK tomorrow night and give this team their full support. We have not beaten Oman in the last 38 years, that is the challenge we face," stated Herdman.

On the other side, Oman head coach Tariq Sektioui is aiming to maintain his side's positive record against Indonesia.

"Of course it has been a very long time since Indonesia last won against Oman, and from our side, we will try to extend this run," said Sektioui, who will be making his official debut as Oman manager after being appointed to the role back in March.

Both Indonesia and Oman failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals tournament. Indonesia were eliminated by Saudi Arabia and Iraq during the fourth qualification round. Meanwhile, Oman were beaten by the United Arab Emirates and only managed a draw against Qatar.

The fixture in Jakarta will be an opportunity for both nations to start a new chapter. For Indonesia, this win is not only about the Match Result, but also about bringing an end to a wait that has stretched for almost four full decades.

Backed by home supporters at GBK and with renewed momentum under Herdman, the Indonesia National Team have the chance to write new history.
