Ahead of the school holiday season, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana inspected the readiness of public service facilities and Tourist Destinations in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Two key locations for this visit were Prambanan Temple and Yogyakarta Tugu Station, which have long been the main draw for both Domestic Tourists and international visitors.

This working visit was conducted to ensure all services operate at optimal capacity, so that tourists can enjoy a Travel Experience that is safe, comfortable, and enjoyable throughout the holiday period.

“I have observed conditions first hand at both these locations. Safety and comfort factors are the top priority for all tourism stakeholders, ranging from transport operators, destination management, hotels, restaurants, to all other supporting services. This is to ensure the public receives the best possible holiday experience,” stated the Minister of Tourism.

The inspection agenda began with a visit to the Prambanan Temple complex, one of Indonesia's iconic tourism landmarks and a favourite destination for travellers visiting Yogyakarta. At this largest Hindu temple complex in the country, the Minister reviewed a number of core visitor comfort facilities.

The Minister sought to verify that ticket purchasing processes run quickly, orderly and efficiently, especially when visitor numbers surge during the school holiday season.

On-site observations showed conditions within the Prambanan Temple area were conducive, with steady, busy tourist activity.

This situation is a positive indicator that the tourism sector is prepared to handle the expected visitor spike over the upcoming holiday period.

Aside from ticketing areas, the Minister also inspected the buggy pickup points that assist visitor mobility inside the temple grounds. The inspection tour then continued to the Prambanan Temple Museum and Brahma Field.

Minister of Tourism Inspects Yogyakarta Tugu Station

After completing checks at Prambanan, the Minister proceeded to inspect Yogyakarta Tugu Station. As one of the main transport hubs on Java Island, this station plays a critical role supporting tourist travel to all leading destinations in Yogyakarta and the surrounding region.

As the school holiday period approaches, activity levels at Tugu Station have increased significantly. The Minister then reviewed various passenger service facilities that have been deployed, including the face recognition system implemented to speed up boarding processes.

Beyond this, the Minister also assessed a full range of supporting amenities: free drinking water refill stations, luggage storage services, lost and found counters, children's play areas, on-site health clinics, and nursing rooms which greatly improve travel comfort for family groups.

The Minister also gave positive recognition for the presence of local MSME product displays inside the station premises. She noted that collaboration between the transport sector and Creative Economy can deliver wider positive impacts for local communities.

“We commend the preparations put in place by PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) and PT KAI Daop 6, who continue to innovate to deliver safe, comfortable and high quality services for the public,” stated Minister Widiyanti.

Transport service readiness is further supported by strategic preparations implemented by KAI. These include adding additional train fleets, optimising train carriage configurations, and deploying extra service staff at all operational points, to anticipate the expected passenger surge during the holiday period.

This level of preparedness was already demonstrated during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr travel period, where KAI successfully served over 5 million passengers, marking an 8 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Alongside verifying destination and transport readiness, the Ministry of Tourism is also continuing to promote domestic travel through the "New Way Holiday" national campaign.

This campaign provides travel inspiration tailored for modern family needs, covering Educational Tourism, village destination exploration, intercity road trips, as well as cultural and culinary travel experiences.
