Filling school holiday breaks can now be done in more enjoyable yet meaningful ways. The Ministry of Tourism, together with Wonderful Indonesia Co-Branding partners, has launched a hybrid online and offline programme titled "Holiday to Play Village", an activity that combines entertainment, education, and introduction to Indonesian culture for children.

This programme is designed to deliver learning experiences through various games and interactive activities. Beyond just being entertaining, children are also guided to recognise the cultural wealth, traditions, and sustainability values that exist across tourism destinations throughout Indonesia.

The "Holiday to Play Village" programme delivers a school holiday experience that is not only fun, but also educational.

"Children will get to experience first-hand the atmosphere of Play Village as a space rich with culture, local wisdom, and sustainability values," stated Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, in an official press release.

According to Made, this programme is part of the campaign to encourage domestic tourism under the DiIndonesiaAja movement, while also introducing tourist villages to the younger generation from an early age.

Through various learn-through-play activities, children are introduced to Indonesian tourism destinations in more interactive, easy-to-understand ways.

One of the main venues for this event is the Wonderful Indonesia Co-Branding Play Village located at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta. The programme will run from 1–5 July 2026, with educational games and interactive workshops held daily.

Each day will feature a different themed activity, covering gastronomy, culture, maritime heritage, traditional textiles, art & design, and fitness. This variety of themes makes the visiting experience more engaging while expanding children's knowledge.

One highlight game is the Corn Adventure. Through this activity, participants will learn about the full process of agricultural produce processing, from the farm all the way to ready-to-eat food products.

Additionally, there will also be a digital scavenger hunt game that challenges children to complete various tasks while getting to know iconic Indonesian tourism destinations. This online game will be accessible starting 22 June until 5 July 2026.

For members of the public who are unable to visit TMII, the same experience can be enjoyed at all Wonderful Indonesia Co-Branding partner destinations. The digital game is available at HeHa Waterfall Bogor, HeHa Forest Sleman, Plaza Ambarrukmo and Plaza Malioboro Yogyakarta, Pramana Craft and Van Bloemen 1881 Sleman, as well as Jatim Park Malang.

Visitors only need to scan the on-site QR code to begin the game. Once started, participants will be guided to explore various local landmarks while enjoying the DiIndonesiaAja themed travel experience.

Made emphasised that education regarding the environment, culture, and local traditions should continuously be introduced to children through enjoyable experiences. This approach is expected to help children more easily understand the importance of preserving nature, as well as respecting Indonesia's cultural heritage.

"We hope that these children will grow into a generation that supports the development of tourist villages, while also coming to see that DiIndonesiaAja is a wonderful holiday option to enjoy together with family," she added.

Through the "Holiday to Play Village" programme, the Ministry of Tourism hopes that children will not only have an enjoyable school holiday break, but also grow into future responsible travellers that care for culture, the environment, and sustainable tourism development in Indonesia.
