Madrid – The latest news comes from the Ducati Lenovo Team garage. The reigning MotoGP world Champion, Marc Marquez, has reportedly left the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid to begin a new chapter in his struggle this season: an intensive Rehabilitation phase. This step follows the rider nicknamed The Baby Alien successfully undergoing two major surgical procedures simultaneously on Sunday local time.
The decision for this double surgery was the medical team's rapid response to the severe highside Crash experienced by Marquez during the MotoGP Sprint Race session at the Le Mans Circuit in France last Saturday. The crash not only caused immediate physical impact for the rider but also triggered complications with a pre-existing Injury he had been carrying.
Details of the Complex Medical Procedures
The medical team led by Dr. Samuel Antuna worked intensively to address two injury points at once. Firstly, the medical team successfully stabilized a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in Marquez's right foot. This leg fracture injury was sustained precisely during the last two laps while he was battling competitively on the Le Mans track.

However, far more crucial was the procedure on Marquez's right shoulder. The medical team had to address a problem that re-emerged following an incident at the 2025 Indonesian MotoGP. In this latest surgery, doctors removed two screws and displaced bone fragments remaining from the 2019 Latarjet surgery. These fragments were found to be exerting pressure on the radial nerve – a highly risky medical condition for a professional rider as it can affect hand motor and sensory function while riding the motorcycle at high speed.
Impact on the Championship Title Race
"Marc will remain in the hospital overnight and return home today (Monday) to start Rehabilitation. His progress over the coming weeks will determine his return to competition," wrote the official statement from the Ducati Lenovo Team in their press release on 11/5/2026.
The immediate impact of this recovery phase is Marquez's absence from the MotoGP Catalunya round scheduled for next Weekend. For Ducati, losing their lead rider amidst the tight Championship Standings is a significant blow. However, the Italian factory team emphasized that the current top priority is ensuring Marquez returns at 100 percent fitness without any residual risk to his radial nerve.
Awaiting the Champion's Return
As of now, there is no certainty regarding the exact date when the rider with the number 93 will return to the track. The racing world now awaits the effectiveness of the rehabilitation program Marquez will undergo at home. Given Marquez's reputation for fierce determination and rapid recovery ability, many are optimistic he won't be sidelined for too long.
The medical team is scheduled to conduct weekly evaluations. The success of this double surgery is considered a crucial foundation for Marquez to salvage the remainder of the 2026 season. Focus is now entirely on How the champion's body responds to post-neural trauma physiotherapy, which will be the main determinant of whether he can return to fight for the podium in the near future.
