The flow of Tourist Visits from China to Indonesia shows a significant surge in early 2026, with Jakarta and Bali serving as the main entry points. The latest data confirms the strategic role of these two destinations in driving national tourism amid changes in the global travel landscape.

According to records from the Central Statistics Agency, the number of visits by Foreign Tourists from China throughout the first quarter (Q1) reached 357,740 visits. This figure increased by 25.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

The contribution of Chinese tourists is becoming increasingly significant. Out of 3.4 million total Foreign Tourist visits in Q1 this year, China accounted for 10.4 percent, ranking as the third-largest source after Malaysia and Australia.

This momentum is reinforced by global promotional efforts. The Ministry of Tourism showcased Indonesia's pavilion at the Macau International Travel (Industry) Expo 2026 (MITE), highlighting premier destinations such as Bali, Labuan Bajo, and Mount Bromo.

During the three-day exhibition, Indonesia secured over 100 business inquiries from prospective partners, predominantly from China-based travel agencies.

Amid global challenges, including escalating conflicts in the Middle East affecting European tourist flows, Indonesia is shifting its market focus to Asia and Oceania.

China has become the primary target, supported by increased availability of direct Flight Routes that bypass conflict zones.

Not only inbound tourism, but outbound trends also show interesting dynamics. The number of Indonesian Tourists traveling to China has risen sharply.

Out of 793.1 thousand total overseas trips in March 2026, 10.7 percent were destined for China—up from 5.46 percent the previous month.

With Jakarta and Bali as primary gateways, backed by promotional strategies and improved connectivity, Indonesia-China tourism relations are now entering a promising new growth phase.
