In Southeast Asia, color is not merely aesthetic, but the pulse of everyday life. That spirit gained global recognition after Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, was named among the world's top 10 most colorful cities.

The neighboring country of Indonesia secured the second position, just below Lisbon, Portugal.

This ranking comes from a study by Irish Travel insurance company JustCover, which analyzed the color palettes of world cities using photos from 78 international destinations.

Using a specialized tool, each image was mapped to calculate the diversity of colors captured within the urban landscapes.

The results placed Kuala Lumpur with a score of 94.5, only behind Lisbon which achieved a perfect score of 100.

The Portuguese city was recorded as having over 2.6 million colors, identified from the visual traces of its buildings, streets, and skyline.

However, Kuala Lumpur possesses a distinct character. While Lisbon shines through pastel walls and reddish brick roofs, Kuala Lumpur captivates through the contrast of coexisting modernity and tradition.

On one hand, towering skyscrapers rise with reflective glass and futuristic silhouettes.

On the other, traditional-style houses, old markets, and temples with characteristic architecture present a layer of more intimate and historical color.

Not far from the city center, one of the region's most photogenic icons adds to Kuala Lumpur's reputation as a colorful city: the rainbow stairs at Batu Caves.

Although geographically outside the city center, this destination is an inseparable part of the Kuala Lumpur tourist experience.

The colorful steps leading to the temple at Batu Caves have long been a magnet for tourists and photographers from around the world.

The combination of bright colors, giant limestone cliffs, and golden statues makes it one of Asia's most striking urban landscapes.

Kuala Lumpur also intrigues because its colors are not static but change according to time and perspective.

City lights at night, street murals by day, mosque domes, festival lanterns, to traditional markets filled with textiles and spices.

Amid competition from world cities like Porto, Cartagena, Rio de Janeiro, and Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur's position shows that a city's visual identity is born from cultural and architectural diversity, not just building paint.

For travelers, this list offers a new reason to see Kuala Lumpur more closely: not just as a transit hub or Shopping City, but as a destination alive with color.
