Amidst a new wave of experience-based Travel, Indonesia asserts itself as one of the world's main stages for Adventure Tourism. Deep and Extreme Indonesia (DXI) 2026 is not merely an exhibition, but a strategic momentum to expand industry networks and strengthen the archipelago's image as a home for nature, sea, and exploration enthusiasts.

"This is one of our steps to further expand networks, solidifying Indonesia's position as a global-level Adventure Tourist Destination," stated Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa in Jakarta.

The statement aligns with Indonesian Tourism increasingly being supported by natural wealth.

According to Ministry of Tourism data, 75 percent of tourists visiting Indonesia consider Nature Tourism their primary attraction.

From that figure, approximately 65 percent choose coastal and marine areas as their main experience during visits.

Tropical oceans, island clusters, and coastlines stretching thousands of kilometers have long been the primary magnet.

Marine tourism even contributes significantly, about 32-42 percent to total national Tourism Economy activities, equivalent to 1.5-2 percent of national Gross Domestic Product.

Post-pandemic changes in Tourist Behavior also drive surging interest in special-interest tourism.

Modern tourists now pursue more personal, profound, and authentic experiences, directly connecting with nature, culture, and local communities.

From Diving in coral waters, Surfing tropical waves, sailing between islands, to hiking volcanic mountains, Indonesia offers a landscape that's hard to rival.

However, outdoor tourism growth also demands higher safety standards. Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism prioritizes safety aspects, including through reinforced training and certification programs for tour guides and nature-based industry players since 2025.

This step is expected to boost international tourist confidence while supporting the ambitious target of 16-17 million Foreign Tourist visits in 2026. For comparison, Indonesia recorded 15.4 million visits the previous year.

Conversely, destination access remains crucial homework. Many prime areas have great potential but lack fully adequate connectivity.

This challenge draws attention from Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

"I'm committed to pushing for the tourism sector, including Marine Tourism, to be supported by infrastructure readiness and inter-regional connectivity," stated AHY.

Synergy among central and regional governments, businesses, and communities is deemed key to unlocking more gateways to premier destinations.

Roads, ports, airports, and supporting facilities will determine tourist comfort in exploring this archipelagic nation.

Held on 23–26 April 2026 in Hall B JICC Jakarta, DXI 2026 carries the theme DAREtoXPLORE: Waves of Collaboration.

This theme invites all stakeholders to collaborate in developing the adventure tourism industry while exploring Indonesia's natural wealth.
