There is no safe space when Real Madrid hosts Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. But this time, the spotlight isn't just on the two European giants, but also on two penalty box predators, Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane.
The competition for the top scorer of the 2025/2026 Champions League is heating up ahead of the quarter-final at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Mbappé still leads the provisional top scorer list with 13 goals. The Real Madrid striker has been consistent since the league phase through to the knockout stages.

One of the best performances by the French National Team striker came when eliminating Benfica in the Round of 16 playoffs. At that time, he scored two goals in one match.
However, since then Mbappé has not added to his goal tally. Fitness issues have slightly hampered his momentum.
In second place, Harry Kane continues to apply pressure. The Bayern Munich striker has now collected 10 goals.
Most recently, Kane scored two goals when Bayern crushed Atalanta in the Round of 16. That result saw Bayern advance with a commanding 10-2 aggregate win.
With only a three-goal difference, Kane has a great chance to overtake Mbappé in the two quarter-final matches.
The meeting of these two goalscorers is no longer just a match but a test of sharpness. One moment, one touch, could brutally change the course of the top scorer race.
If Kane finds his sharpness again, the gap could be reduced or he could even dethrone Mbappé. Conversely, Mbappé has the chance to extend his lead if he returns to his best form.
Other contenders like Anthony Gordon with 10 goals are no longer relevant after Newcastle United were eliminated. The same goes for Erling Haaland (Manchester City) with eight goals.
Meanwhile, Julián Álvarez's (Atletico Madrid) chances with his collection of eight goals are not yet closed.
From the next line, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia rose in the rankings after helping Paris Saint-Germain eliminate Chelsea.
