Many people dream of vacationing in peaceful, authentic places far from the tourist hustle and bustle. In 2025, that dream seems to take shape in the list of the world's coolest areas according to international media outlet Time Out.

These areas weren't chosen just for their beauty, but for their culture, community, accessibility, food and drink, and even that hard-to-define "contemporary vibe."

In its World's Coolest Neighborhoods for 2025 report, Time Out conducted a global curation involving thousands of nominations from various countries. The result? Japan claimed the top spot worldwide. The best areas by these criteria aren't always major tourist hubs.

Jimbocho is a unique area in the heart of Tokyo. This district was crowned the world's coolest neighborhood for 2025. It's not a futuristic district like Shibuya, but rather a living nostalgia.

Jimbocho is known as home to around 130 vintage bookstores, classic coffee shops, and legendary curry cuisine. This is where book lovers, artists, and students come to seek inspiration.

In second place is Borgerhout in Antwerp. Dubbed the creative heart, this area is filled with art galleries, alternative music venues, and authentic eateries.

Time Out highlights popular lunch spots like Café Josee and Pizza Gallery, which combine art and food in one social space.

Barra Funda takes the third spot thanks to its blend of creative urban energy and its industrial history. Time Out says this area in western São Paulo has a creative atmosphere. It's the birthplace of alternative culture, colorful murals, and community spaces.
