Amid the expanse of blue sea and clusters of tropical islands in the Riau Islands, Bintan stands out as one of the enchanting tourist destinations. Its beaches are renowned internationally, its natural wealth remains well-preserved, and its culture offers unforgettable experiences.
However, this beauty would mean little without easy access and inter-island connections. This is where the importance of the Telaga Punggur–Tanjung Uban crossing comes in.
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is strengthening services on this strategic connectivity route to ensure smoother mobility of people and goods between Batam Island and Bintan Island.

These two islands are not only centers of industrial and economic activity but also the main gateway to the tourist paradise of Bintan.
ASDP President Director Heru Widodo emphasized that this initiative is part of the company's significant commitment to supporting tourism development.
"Indonesia has incredible potential to become a world-class tourist destination, and the Bintan Islands are one of the pearls within it. With the presence of the Telaga Punggur-Tanjung Uban crossing, we aim to ensure access for the public and tourists becomes easier, faster, and more comfortable," said Heru.
Imagine a sea-crossing journey taking just minutes, then arriving on an island with white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.
Heru described this ferry route as a lifeline for the community and a gateway to various premier tourist destinations.
"Across the blue expanse of the Riau Islands sea, stretches a ferry route that serves as the lifeline of the community and the gateway to Indonesia's premier tourist destinations. One of these is the Telaga Punggur-Tanjung Uban crossing," he stated.
According to him, this crossing has become a vital route because it connects two strategic areas with continuously developing potential—Batam as an industrial hub and Bintan as a tourism icon.
"The beauty of the Bintan Islands seems truly endless to explore. From the enchanting charm of Trikora Beach, the pristine Pengudang Beach, to the soul-soothing tranquility of Senggiling Beach," he said.
Yet Bintan's charm doesn't stop at its beaches. The island offers a variety of other nature-based tourism options. Tourists can also discover the splendor of Gunung Bintan Waterfall and Bintan Mangrove, with its pristine tropical nature.
Interestingly, Bintan is not just a tourist paradise but also a food granary. The island also produces various food commodities like corn, breadfruit, and various tubers, supporting food security in the Riau Islands region.
Therefore, the existence of the Telaga Punggur–Tanjung Uban crossing is not solely about tourism. The presence of the Telaga Punggur – Tanjung Uban crossing not only strengthens the tourism sector but also smoothens inter-island logistics and trade flows.
The high mobility of the public and tourists is reflected in data from January–September 2025. ASDP recorded that this crossing served 217,257 passengers and 274,998 vehicles.
Of that number, 161,281 motorcycles dominated, followed by 90,697 private cars. These figures show the immense interest in visiting Bintan.
ASDP Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin explained that services are now increasingly optimized. The crossing operates regularly every hour, from 06:00–18:00 WIB, with flagship vessels such as KMP Barau, KMP Tanjung Burang, KMP Lome, KMP Sembilang, KMP Senangin, and KMP Mulia Nusantara.
"We continuously update facilities and infrastructure to enhance user comfort. One example is the construction of a special corridor for pedestrians to ensure more orderly and safer mobility within the port area," explained Shelvy.
ASDP doesn't stop at just one route. The company also operates various other important crossings such as Telaga Punggur–Mengkapan, Telaga Punggur–Kuala Tungkal, Telaga Punggur–Dabo, Telaga Punggur–Telaga Balai Karimun, Dabo–Kuala Tungkal, Telaga Balai Karimun–Mengkapan, Dumai–Rupat, and Telaga Balai Karimun–Selat Beliah.
"ASDP's spirit in strengthening inter-island connectivity is not only oriented towards mobility but also towards increasing added value for communities and regional tourism," said Shelvy.
With increasingly robust ferry access, tourists can now explore Bintan more easily. From exotic beaches to tropical nature tours, from local culture to distinctive cuisine. Bintan is no longer just an island but a tourist destination ready to welcome international tourists.(Antara)
