For those of you looking for ways to have a Budget Holiday but still memorable, taking a local Train journey can be an underrated choice that's actually full of surprises. Behind super pocket-friendly ticket prices lies a visual experience often no less impressive than an expensive Tourist Journey.
Imagine sitting relaxed in the train seat, watching the scenery outside the window slowly transform. From the bustling cityscape, shifting to endless rice fields, then entering lush green hills. This kind of journey isn't just about reaching a destination, but savoring the process itself.
In Indonesia, this experience awaits on various local train routes across many regions. The Bogor Paledang to Sukabumi route, for example, offers mountain vistas with noticeably fresher air. Meanwhile, the Semarang Tawang to Solo journey presents strong Javanese cultural vibes, complete with tranquil rural landscapes.

If you want something different, the Medan to Siantar route showcases Sumatra's signature pristine green panoramas. There's also the unique Padang to Pariaman route featuring coastal views rarely seen on Indonesian train journeys. Meanwhile, the Cipatat to Sukabumi line delivers classic charm as it winds through rolling hills.
Remarkably, all these experiences come at highly affordable prices. Local train tickets start from just Rp2,000 for a single trip, making them among the most economical transportation and Tourism options available.
During the 2026 Eid Holiday season, public interest in local trains surged. PT Indonesia Train Company recorded Train Ticket sales reaching 4.2 million tickets, about 93.3% of total capacity. Specifically for local trains, sales surpassed 579,000 tickets and continued climbing.
"KAI invites travelers to plan trips more flexibly. Local Trains offer a way to experience Eid Holiday more relaxedly, affordably, and full of stories," stated KAI's VP Corporate Communication Anne Purba in an official release.
This high demand was evident on popular routes like Bogor–Sukabumi, Solo–Semarang, and Padang–Pariaman, which saw packed carriages throughout the holiday period.
This phenomenon signals a shift in Travel preferences - no longer focused on distance or expense, but on appreciating each moment. Local trains emerge as an alternative that's not only budget-friendly but also provides closer connections to nature and local communities.
For many travelers, journeys like this feel more authentic without rigid itineraries or pressure - simply sitting, observing, and enjoying the ride.
