Indonesia National Team Coach John Herdman asserted that his team must find a way to secure a victory when facing Bulgaria in the final match of the FIFA Series 2026. The match is scheduled to take place at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Monday night, March 30, 2026.

Herdman admitted his team's preparation was far from ideal. Limited time and players joining late posed specific challenges ahead of this crucial match.

"Supporters must understand we only had two days. Players arrived late with different sleep cycles, and we held just two training sessions together. This is a small yet significant step to build discipline against teams like Bulgaria. We must find a way to win," Herdman stated at Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium, Jakarta, on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after leading his team's training session.

In terms of quality, Bulgaria is considered stronger than Indonesia's previous opponent, Saint Kitts and Nevis, who were defeated 4-0. Bulgaria also boasts more international experience.

The gap is reflected in the FIFA Ranking, where Bulgaria sits 87th globally while Indonesia ranks 122nd.

Herdman specifically highlighted the threat from Bulgaria's wingers, noting their play becomes highly dangerous when they find rhythm.

"Their wingers are extremely dangerous. They build attacks through triangular combinations on the flanks. If they establish rhythm, it will trouble us greatly. Stopping their flank combinations and tempo is crucial," he explained.

The Canadian coach enjoyed a successful debut with Indonesia after the emphatic win over Saint Kitts and Nevis but emphasized the Bulgaria challenge would differ significantly.

The squad managed by Aleksandar Dimitrov possesses superior physicality and more organized gameplay.

Consequently, Herdman stressed the need to start with high intensity from the first minute to avoid being overwhelmed.

"Our preparation focuses on starting stronger than against Saint Kitts. Beginning slowly would be punished. Against such teams, there's no recovery path. If they score first, they know how to close out matches," said the former Canadian National Team Coach.

He expressed hope that his team could make history by securing Indonesia's first victory against a European team.

"Hopefully we achieve our first historical win against a European team," he added.
