Elkan Baggott returns to the Indonesian National Team for FIFA Series 2026 after almost two years of absence. For Garuda Squad coach John Herdman, the return of the 23-year-old defender isn't just an additional option in the backline but also brings English football's professionalism standards.
Herdman hopes Baggott's presence in the national team will positively impact the Garuda Squad's performance.
"He (Baggott) who plays in the English second tier trains with an intensity I consider at the highest level. I hope he brings that professionalism here," said Herdman after leading a training session at Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium on Tuesday.

Baggott arrives with competitive experience from the EFL Championship with Ipswich Town, an environment demanding high discipline, fast tempo, and physical consistency.
Herdman hopes that experience will spread to the Indonesian National Team's locker room.
Baggott previously played for the U-19 team in 2020 and U-23 team in 2023. He last represented Indonesia at the 2023 Asian Cup.
Beyond immediate expectations, Herdman also sees long-term potential. Baggott isn't merely a quick fix but a foundation.
"I've watched his performances for Indonesia and was impressed. I'm confident he'll be the future of the national team," Herdman stated.
This narrative extends beyond the individual. Baggott's presence creates a domino effect in the defense, particularly for Rizky Ridho.
He views Baggott's return as an opportunity to learn directly from a player with European experience.
"I'm happy he's trusted again to strengthen the national team. He's now bigger and more developed. Plus, his experience is naturally greater, and I'll learn from the knowledge he gained playing in England," Ridho said.
The FIFA Series 2026 serves as a testing stage—not only for Herdman as the new architect but also for how global standards can be translated into Indonesia's playing identity.
