John Herdman's Debut & Elkan Baggott's 'Comeback' Most Anticipated in FIFA Series 2026

The Indonesian National Team is preparing for a crucial match in the FIFA Series 2026 against Saint Kitts and Nevis at the Main Stadium of Gelora Bung Karno, Friday, March 27, 2026. This match is in the spotlight as it marks a new era under a new coach and the return of a key player in the backline.

This match will be the official debut for new coach John Herdman with the Garuda squad. The Canadian coach was previously known for successfully leading his country's national team to the FIFA World Cup 2022 after a long absence.

PSSI Chairman, Erick Thohir, is optimistic that Herdman's experience will have a positive impact on the development of the Indonesian national team.

"Coach Herdman has a clear track record. He built Canada from a team not considered a contender to appearing in the World Cup. We hope that experience can bring new energy to the Indonesian national team," said Erick.

Besides the arrival of the new coach, this match also marks the comeback moment for Elkan Baggott, who returns to strengthen the national team after last appearing in May 2024. His presence is expected to solidify the defense, especially in facing the opponents' physical style of play.

For this tournament, Herdman has selected 24 players from a preliminary squad of over 40 names. The team composition combines players pursuing careers abroad and in domestic competitions.

Several names who previously often featured in the national team squad are not in the final list. In terms of club contributions, Persija Jakarta is the largest provider of players, followed by Persib Bandung.

As the host, Indonesia will play in the evening match after the opening match between Bulgaria and the Solomon Islands is held earlier in the afternoon.
