Manager Michael Carrick couldn't hide his disappointment after Manchester United suffered a painful 1-2 defeat to Newcastle United in Premier League matchweek 29 at St James' Park.
The defeat felt particularly bitter because Newcastle had to play with 10 men since the end of the first half. Despite the numerical advantage, United failed to capitalize on the situation and ultimately left without any points.
"The way the game played out was clearly very disappointing and there's no other way to describe it," said Carrick on Manchester United's website.

The match took a dramatic turn when Newcastle midfielder Jacob Ramsey received his second yellow card in the 45+1 minute. However, instead of being pressured, the hosts actually performed more effectively.
Newcastle's two winning goals were scored by Anthony Gordon and William Osula. Meanwhile, MU could only reply once through a goal by Casemiro in Injury time at the end of the first half.
For Carrick, this result felt very painful because his team actually had the momentum to turn the game around after gaining the numerical advantage.
"To be honest, this is really painful for me," said Carrick.
MU's Positive Trend Under Carrick Halted
The defeat to Newcastle also halted Manchester United's impressive run since Carrick took charge in January. Before this match, the Red Devils were unbeaten in seven league games.
In eight matches under Carrick, United recorded six wins, one draw, and one defeat, scoring a total of 15 goals while conceding eight.
However, the defeat at Newcastle's ground became the first blemish in that period and also ended the team's positive trend.
The Disappearance of the "Second Half United" Identity
Another notable point from this defeat was the disappearance of MU's sharpness in the second half. During the Carrick era, MU had become known as a team often sharper after the break.
Out of MU's total 15 goals in eight league games under Carrick, 11 were scored in the second half.
These goals came against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Everton, and Crystal Palace.
But when facing Newcastle, United failed to score after the break. Their only goal came from Casemiro at the end of the first half.
This situation presents significant homework for Carrick. Until now, the "Second Half United" identity had been one of the team's main strengths for turning games around.
