The 28th week of the 2025/26 English League featured a goal fest at Anfield and a tight duel at Elland Road. Liverpool put on a mighty display by defeating West Ham United 5-2, while Manchester City secured three points after defeating Leeds United 1-0.

Playing at Anfield Stadium, Arne Slot's starting squad pressed from the early minutes. A quick goal was created in the fifth minute by Hugo Ekitike who maximized a pass from Ryan Gravenberch.

The home team's dominance continued. A header by Virgil van Dijk in the 24th minute after receiving a corner kick pass from Dominik Szoboszlai extended the lead. Before the break, Alexis Mac Allister added a third goal and closed the first half with a 3-0 score.

Entering the second half, West Ham put up some resistance. Tomas Soucek reduced the deficit with a header utilizing a pass from El Hadji Malick Diouf.

But Liverpool remained sharp. Cody Gakpo scored the fourth goal after receiving an assist from Ekitike. The visiting team struck back again through a header by Valentin Castellanos after a corner kick by Jarrod Bowen.

The fifth goal for The Reds came late in the match after a pass by Jeremie Frimpong hit Axel Disasi and turned into an own goal. The 5-2 score held until the final whistle.

The additional three points brought Liverpool to 48 points from 28 matches and moved up to fifth place. West Ham remain stuck in the relegation zone with 25 points in 18th position.

Manchester City 1-0 Leeds: Semenyo Goal Makes the Difference

In a separate match, Manchester City secured an important victory when visiting Elland Road. Pep Guardiola's team had to work hard against the home side's pressure.

Leeds threatened through Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Justin, but City's defensive line appeared disciplined.

The decisive goal came in the 45+2nd minute. Rayan Ait-Nouri surged from the left side before delivering a well-placed cross which was finished by Antoine Semenyo for the match's only goal.

In the second half, City increased their attacking intensity, while Leeds tried to counter with a quick counter-attacking scheme. However, until the match ended, the 1-0 score remained unchanged.

This result brought Manchester City to 59 points in second place, only one point behind Arsenal at the top of the table. Leeds are still stuck in 15th place with 31 points.
