The surge in performance of the Indonesian National Futsal Team is not only felt on the court but also reflected in the global rankings. The Garuda squad now sits at 24th in the world. This achievement marks a significant transformation for Indonesian Futsal on the international stage, following their success in advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
This position serves as tangible validation of the progress built over the past few years.
Based on the FIFA World Ranking update per December 2025, Indonesia is beginning to tread among the elite of world futsal.

Now, with their advancement to the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup semifinals, the opportunity to improve their ranking position is wide open.
The Garuda's momentum comes at the perfect time. The 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup semifinal ticket is not only a prestigious achievement but also a new historical milestone.
Out of Indonesia's 11 participations in the tournament, this is the first time the Red and White Team has managed to break into the top four.
Previously, Indonesia's journey in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup often ended early. In the first nine editions, the Garuda were always eliminated in the group stage.
A new breakthrough occurred in 2022 when Indonesia reached the Quarter-Finals. Now, reaching the semifinals is the biggest leap in the history of national futsal.
The consistent performance of Hector Souto's squad has even sparked a scenario previously hard to imagine. If the Futsal World Cup were held this year, Indonesia would have the potential to secure a spot in the final round.
However, the qualification system means the dream of appearing on the world stage must still wait. The AFC Futsal Asian Cup is indeed a pathway to the World Cup, but this only applies if the continental tournament is held in the same year as the Futsal World Cup.
This means the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup is not a qualification route to the 2028 FIFA Futsal World Cup. Tickets to the global stage will only be contested at the 2028 AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
This format has been in place since 2000, when the three best Asian teams directly represented the region at the Futsal World Cup. A similar pattern was then used in the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 editions.
An exception occurred in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic forced a system change. The Futsal World Cup was postponed by one year and the AFC appointed three Asian representatives directly, while the other two slots were contested through playoffs. The AFC Asian Cup-based qualification system returned starting in 2024.
Indonesia has never appeared in the Futsal World Cup. However, if they can maintain consistency and break into the semifinals again at the Asian Cup in two years' time, the road to the world level will open wider for the Garuda Squad.
The world ranking, now at 24th position, is a crucial foundation. More than just a number, this position reflects the changing mentality, quality of play, and newfound ambition of Indonesian futsal.
