Indonesian Futsal National Team suffered a bitter defeat in the final match of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup. Playing before their home crowd at Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, the Indonesian National Team failed to claim the tournament title after losing to Iranian Futsal National Team in a penalty shootout drama.
The final match unfolded with high tension and non-stop drama. Indonesia even held the lead several times, but Iran demonstrated championship mentality by forcing a 5-5 draw until the end of normal and extra time.
The penalty shootout became the decider. Iran emerged victorious 5-4 after two Indonesian kickers, Dewa Rizki and Israr Megantara, failed to execute their shots successfully.

Despite failing to bring home the trophy, second place remains Indonesia's best achievement throughout their AFC Futsal Asian Cup participation—a significant milestone in national futsal history.
From the opening minutes, Indonesia displayed courage. The first chance came from Rio Pangestu's shot, though Iranian Goalkeeper Bagher Mohammadi managed to parry it. Iran then stole an early goal in the 3rd minute through Hossein Tayebi's strike.
Indonesia responded quickly. In the 7th minute, Reza Gunawan equalized with a tap-in, capitalizing on a rebound from Dewa Rizki's shot. The score leveled at 1-1.
Momentum shifted. Hector Souto's squad successfully turned the game around in the 8th minute when Israr Megantara converted goalkeeper Ahmad Habiebie's direct pass into a goal.
One minute later, Israr scored again to put Indonesia ahead 3-1.
Iran temporarily narrowed the gap through Saeid Ahmad Abbasi's shot in the 16th minute, but the referee disallowed it after determining the ball had gone out of play following Indonesia's challenge request.
Shortly after, Iran earned a golden opportunity from the penalty spot, but Salar Aghapour's kick was saved by Habiebie.
Iran's pressure finally paid off in the 18th minute. Mahdi Karimi scored from a free-kick set piece, reducing the deficit to 2-3.
Entering the second half, Iran bombarded Indonesia's defense and equalized through Saeid Ahmad Abbasi's free-kick in the 23rd minute.
However, Indonesia again showed fighting spirit. Just one minute later, Samuel Eko fired a powerful shot to put Indonesia back ahead 4-3.
Iran maintained pressure. Habiebie shone under the crossbar, notably when Mohammad Hossein Derakhshani nearly equalized but hit the crossbar.
Iran implemented a power play strategy with about four minutes remaining. This pressure resulted in Mahdi Karimi's 37th-minute goal, tying the score 4-4.
This score held until the end of normal time, forcing extra time.
During the first extra period, the 4-4 stalemate continued. Drama peaked in the second extra period when Israr Megantara completed his hat-trick in the 49th minute to give Indonesia a 5-4 lead.
But the advantage vanished again. Iran needed only moments to equalize through Salar Aghapour's fierce strike. The 5-5 score persisted until extra time ended, sending the match to penalties.
In the decisive moment, Iran appeared calmer. Two failed attempts by Indonesian kickers saw the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup title slip away, while Iran reaffirmed their status as Asian Futsal Kings.
