Jay Idzes reaffirmed his role as a crucial figure in Sassuolo's backline. The Indonesian National Team defender received widespread praise after a solid performance that proved key to Sassuolo's 3-1 victory over Pisa in Matchweek 23 of the 2025/2026 Serie A.

Visiting Stadio Romeo Anconetani on Saturday, 31 January 2026, Sassuolo secured three points. Jay Idzes played the full 90 minutes, anchoring the defense from kickoff.

Sassuolo took the lead through Domenico Berardi before Ismael Kone doubled the advantage. Pisa reduced the deficit via Michael Aebischer, but an own goal by Caracciolo sealed the away win.

Though Berardi and Kone scored, Idzes' contribution was equally vital. The 24-year-old defender recorded six clearances that repeatedly thwarted Pisa's attacks.

A critical moment came with Sassuolo leading 2-1. Idzes executed a perfectly timed sliding tackle to block Matteo Tramoni's shot heading toward the goal line—a vital intervention that prevented an equalizer.

Had the ball crossed the line, the match dynamic could have shifted dramatically. Idzes' composure and precision preserved Sassuolo's momentum.

His impressive display earned high marks from Italian media outlet Tutto Sassuolo, who awarded him a rating of 7—the second-highest in the Neroverdi squad.

Shortly after Idzes' crucial save, Sassuolo extended their lead. Kone's goal seven minutes later cemented Fabio Grosso's side's dominance.

Sassuolo controlled proceedings until the final whistle, climbing to 11th in the Serie A standings with 29 points from 23 matches.

Meanwhile, Pisa remains rooted to the bottom of the table with just 14 points, needing urgent improvements to escape relegation threat.
