Amidst the Parahyangan mountains and the pulse of urban creativity, Bandung asserts its position on Asia's Tourism map. Historically known as a favorite weekend getaway for Domestic Tourists, Bandung now ranks among Asia's fastest-growing destinations for Foreign Tourists.
This achievement is documented in the annual New Horizons report by digital travel platform Agoda.
Cited from Japan Today on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Vietnam's Sapa leads as the fastest-growing destination, followed by Japan's Okayama.

Java Island remains the top holiday destination for domestic tourists during the early year holiday period.
Japanese tourism is booming, but travelers are starting to leave the Tokyo–Kyoto route.
Bandung secured third position, ahead of Japan's Matsuyama and Takamatsu.
The New Horizons report compares accommodation booking data over the past two years.
Agoda's analysis identifies Asian destinations with the most significant spikes in international travel interest – not just popular spots but cities offering fresh experiences beyond main tourist trails.
Bandung's inclusion in this prestigious list confirms its appeal to international visitors.
Cool mountain air, surrounding natural landscapes, culinary richness, and vibrant creative lifestyles combine to shape Bandung's identity as Indonesia's Alternative Destination, offering distinct experiences from Bali or Jakarta.
Regionally, Bandung now parallels other emerging Asian destinations gaining global attention.
Agoda also noted several first-time entries in Asia's 2025 Top 100 destinations list, including Thailand's Ko Phangan and Ko Tao, plus Japan's Nagano, Nara, Shizuoka, Kagoshima, and Aomori.
This trend reflects shifting Foreign Tourist preferences. While Thailand and Japan remain primary magnets, more travelers seek less-crowded destinations offering personal and authentic experiences.
Agoda's North Asia Regional Director Jay Lee observed that secondary destinations now lead global travel trends.
“Previously lesser-known destinations rapidly become top choices for travelers seeking authenticity and closer Cultural Experiences,” he stated.
He cited how Sapa's terraced rice fields and Takamatsu's coastal charm attract tourists while boosting tourism expenditure.
“These destinations not only draw tourist interest but also drive their spending, signaling tourism's directional shift toward 2026 and beyond,” he added.
For Bandung, this third-place ranking transcends mere position – it signifies that West Java's creative highland city now stands equal to Asia's other rising destinations.
