Bandung is no longer just a city for shopping or relaxing in trendy cafes. The capital of West Java is gradually shaping a new identity as an Urban Tourism Destination to be explored on foot, through shady sidewalks and historical buildings.

This effort is reinforced by the Bandung City Government through beautifying 17 main road corridors. These sections have developed into Tourism magnets encompassing heritage areas, shopping centers, and culinary-cultural corridors.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan emphasized this initiative isn't merely infrastructure work, but part of a strategy transforming roads into public spaces and tourism experiences.

"Following the leadership meeting, we'll conduct repairs and specialized maintenance on 17 road sections in Bandung and their adjacent areas, as these corridors have become tourist destinations," stated Farhan in Bandung on Tuesday.

City Corridors Become Tourist Destinations

These seventeen corridors aren't ordinary routes. Here, tourists discover the city's pulse: the cool, creative Ir H Juanda Road (Dago), fashionable RE Martadinata, bustling cosmopolitan Merdeka and Lembong streets, to history-rich Asia Afrika.

The list includes Tamblong, Simpang Lima, Naripan, Sunda, Sumatera, Jawa, Wastukancana roads, plus other strategic sections forming the heart of urban activity.

Farhan explained the improvements are comprehensive, addressing both functional and visual city aspects.

"These are standard repairs but with special attention to ensure these areas are truly tourism-ready," he said.

Enhancements cover road surfaces, sidewalks, and area layouts to create neater, safer, and more comfortable spaces for pedestrians - crucial to modern urban tourism.

From Infrastructure to Tourism Experience

Globally, roads now serve as temporary living spaces for tourists - places to walk, photograph, pause, savor Coffee, or observe local life.

Revitalizing these 17 corridors aims to create integrated tourism pathways, enabling organic city exploration without vehicle dependency.

Farhan stressed the ultimate goals are preserving city quality while boosting the economy.

"This is part of maintaining urban standards, especially in tourist-frequented zones," he concluded.(ANTARA)
